Thanks for posting this. I wonder if this is what I’m plagued with...
If you're getting a lot of bloating shortly after eating, gut pain and can't digest food well at all it could be SIBO. I had it and it's not fun. The contributing factor was constipation-making things sit too long in the intestines and low stomach acid. Keep it all moving or bacteria builds up. I took a lot of probiotics for awhile, drank a really small juice glass of aloe Vera juice mixed with 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar and 1/4 tsp. baking soda with meals or at least once a day, and ate or took whatever was necessary to keep the bowels moving every day. Aloe Vera juice by the gallon is sold at Wal-Mart in the pharmacy dept. for a reasonable price and I went through 2 of them. It helps clean out the bacteria and heal the gut. The drink mix doesn't taste bad at all with an apple fizzy taste.
Thank you that situation you described sounds like me! I live near Vancouver BC so will head to Walmart for some Aloe Vera next time I’m in town.
Rideabike,
Your response presents what may be a very important therapeutic strategy against SIBO.
Thanks! Doctors can fight with antibiotics but if you can do it naturally why not? It's a mechanical problem with slow digestion with PD'rs most of the time so making colonic transit fast and effective is kind of how I live now. Hard cheese is to be avoided as it causes constipation worse for me than anything. Great research articles!

I was diagnosed with SIBO a year ago. Loose stools and gas wouldn't go away. MD did stool cultures which came up positive for Rotavirus. Loose stools persisted. Referred to Gastro MD. Colonoscopy and endoscopy negative except for a tiny Barrett's esophagus (a small erosion in lining of esophagus). Put on acid suppressant and probiotics. No relief. Finally a Breath Test came up positive for SIBO. No relief with 3 courses of antibiotics. Acid suppressants make it harder to heal. I am lucky in that my symptoms though persistent are fairly mild. I worry however whether my PD meds and supplements are getting absorbed.
An informative anecdote. Thank you.
