It's the quinine in the tonic water that gives the relief, but if you are out and about with no tonic water immediately on hand, these pills will fill the bill and you can carry them in your pocket or purse for convenience :

The label says quinine sulfate but the listed ingredients further down the page does not include this among the ingredients. Is quinine sulfate among the ingredients listed on the package?

I found this review on the Swanson site:

"Not what I thought

I purchased this product because it stated to have Quinine in it although I had been using a different brand that contains 100 tabs. that Swanson also offers, but no longer claims to contain Quinine in it's formulation. The brand that has 100 tabs. worked so much quicker & was more effective for my leg cramps! I really miss taking what I had been using & now the formulation changed!

In the Q&A section, it says Cinchona is the source of the quinine.

The other good point of this product is that it is a homeopathic blend and because of the high dilution rate, it is less likely to have side effects.

I linked to the wrong product, but have corrected the original link above. It is the same company, but the new link is the correct version.

Thank you for this. My husband is doing really well, but he gets some bad cramps sometimes. He literally just told me that he had a cramp last for 5 minutes last night. I will be purchasing these items!

Thanks for tip -- good for relief once you get a cramp, but also try rubbing magnesium oil spray on legs/feet before bed. My husband (87/PD) has had a lot of relief from being awakened in the night. Several varieties on Amazon. He likes the ones made for nighttime use.

Most of us have started using the l-theonate type. Much better type, you can search it on here. I take it mid day with vit D, extra at night if needed for cramps. Theres also Hylands homeopathic leg cramp pills, work great for during cramps.

Will tonic water prevent nighttime leg cramps?

That may be a reason to consider the Hyland product as it is a homeopathic version (super dilution) and may avoid the drawback of regular dosing with actual quinine from tonic water. I must admit that I have never heard of anyone overdosing on tonic water though.

We use the homeopathic pills with great success

Rosenmu,

What exact benefit do you feel you get from these Hyland homeopathic pills?

Rosenmu profile image
Rosenmu in reply to chartist

The leg cramps stop because of the minute amount of quinine. However, I prefer to take magnesium on a daily basis, they don't get a chance to happen. we only take the other when we actually get a cramp.

Rosenmu,

This is good and very useful information for forum members dealing with muscle cramps and not always getting full relief from oral magnesium supplementation alone!

Would you please add your full report to the following thread so that more members can see how you have figured out how to deal with muscle cramps. By adding your information to that thread, more members and viewers will be able to see your effective use of these two supplements to manage muscle cramps.

If it will be too difficult to do, I will gladly copy and paste it. Thank you!

I take 2 magnesium citrate pills at bedtime and this eliminates almost all leg cramps. Start with one tablet because this is a mild natural laxative too.

If I do have a bad cramp that won't release, I either eat a few slices of dill pickle, or drink a small amount of pickle juice or apple cider vinegar. You only need to drink about 1/8 cup, but have some crackers ready if you don't like this taste in your mouth. I know this sounds crazy and I didn't believe it until I tried it but the cramp will go away almost immediately.

I use the Braggs fermented pickle juice for food poisoning, never heard to use it for cramps

I use Emergency-C. Advertised for cold prevention, but is great for all cramping.

I don't have PD, my husband does. But I thought my experience might help. I was getting bad cramps in bed. I garden a lot and heavily sweat. My sodium levels are affected. I talk electrolytes during the day and also

Ultra Muscleze (an advanced magnesium blend) later in the day. (I also drink tonic water, but I probably should leave the gin out 😅!)

I am so grateful for this site. It's been helping me through some very difficult times.
