My husband has been doing extremely well lately. Some supplements he has started recently that have helped his mood, motivation levels and energy are l-carnosine from purebulk, 1/4 tsp twice per day on empty stomach. Celery seed extract, natural factors, 2x per day, icariin from horny goat weed Planetary Herbs and pantathine 600mg from NOW. (He still takes other things as listed on my profile and I still think Hardy’s daily essential nutrients are an essential part of his regime.)
Particularly the HGW has really boosted his energy levels and motivation to get out and do things, plus it definitely has an effect on libido. I think it must be helping dopamine levels if it is reducing apathy. Why don’t you give it a go once researching side effects and making sure it wont interact with your other medication.

Daily essential nutrients: here are the ingredients off the label. My husband takes 4 3x per day. (12 in total) so a bottle lasts a month. My teenage son is on them now too and it has really helped his mood, and I put a neighbour who has had depression all her life on to them too and she feels so much better she has her daughter and autistic granddaughter on them too now and recommends them to everyone.

True, the B6 will reduce the amount of dopamine (from the L-Dopa) reaching the brain. But Park-Bear on this site has long recommended a way around this: take the B6 separated in time (say by about 2 hours) from the C/L or the Sinemet. Depending on your drug schedule, you may be able to take the B6 at bedtime or first thing in the morning when you get up.
Avoiding the B6 altogether would not seem to be wise since it is required for hundreds of essential interactions in the body. Besides B6 is useful, together with B12, folate, and TMG (Betaine anhydrous), for keeping homocysteine low in the body, and Parkinsons patients are very prone to have elevated level of homocysteine. High levels of homocysteine raise the risk of cardiovascular damage and dementia, among other diseases.
How much B6 should you take? Since the Carbidopa binds one-to-one with B6 (according to Marty Hinz), you should take an amount of B6 equal to your total dose of Carbidopa. For example if you take 3 Sinemets (25/100 C/L) daily, you should take about 75mg of B6 to compensate for the 75mg of B6 deactivated by the Carbidopa.
In my experience, MDSs do not counsel their patients on the need for B6 or this time-offset workaround for taking it. This would seem to be a serious lapse on their part.
I must admit that I am extremely impressed with the exhaustive list of component nutrients in a single capsule! Wow. I am sure that must be a result for a lot R&D that must have gone into it. Truly amazing.
They have been making it 15 years and have clinical trials for adhd and ptsd and it is made in Canada so quality control is good
Read the web page.
My husband was on most of the individual components before taking it from different manufacturers and it wasn’t doing much then within 3 days of swapping it was an amazing difference to his mood.
I saw it recently in a advert on and posted about it . Here is the ad. I noticed icariin is one of the only things in this product that my husband isn’t already taking so I thought I would try it too and it seemed to be working well!
I wouldn’t buy this green valley product though as it looks expensive and the other stuff in it is already in things he takes already.
I assume that’s what your question meant? Otherwise:
Hardy’s DEn is a multivitamin that also has other supplements in it as part of its proprietary blend. He has been taking this all year and I believe it has helped him tremendously.
The other supplements I mention above are my husbands recent additions to his regime. Particularly HGW has had an amazing effect on him motivation and energy. The others I think have also helped but less dramatically. But he is also taking lots of other things listed on my profile too so the effect may be additive to one or some of them. Impossible to tell what is helping what, other than to say he is considerably improved from when diagnosed 18 months ago. Also he is exercising now more than ever which might be because we got him a dog, but 18 months ago you could not ever force him to exercise and if he did go for a short walk he was exhausted and slept for hours afterwards.
I am 59 and was diagnosed September of 2018. I haven't tried too many things besides CL and apathy is preventing me from exercise and showing interest in trying other things to help my situation. I am going to try Hardys and see if it helps.
It’s a good start I think. It gives you a bit of a lot of different useful things.
Are you on antidepressants? Mirtazapine was the start of my husbands apathy I think. Well it made it worse anyway.
I’m slowly weaning him off it and sertraline/Zoloft as his body heals. I use a jewellers scale and decrease it by no more than a couple of percent in a week. I have some large empty gel caps and I cut the tablet and repackage it in the gel cap to be as accurate as I can be. If he is feeling good the next week I take a bit more. If he isn’t I leave it the same for a while till his body catches up. The Hardy’s repairs things so if medication isn’t slowly decreased he becomes over medicated and it makes him compulsive so he speeds, eats too much and buys too much.
Talk to the product specialist at Hardy’s. They have a free helpline and will advise you. It is part of the cost of the supplement to have free support.
The horny goat weed was what helped the apathy for him but it might have been additive with the rest.
Fish oil might be a good addition too for you and thiamine HCl (cheap from vitacost.com). There is a bit of thiamine in Hardy’s but not enough if you have PD probably.
My husband's tremors are pretty much non-existent after starting B-12 supp. He takes 8000 times the daily recommendation (needs to be the methyl type.) He is also taking Ceylon Cinnamon. We are not sure which is doing the trick, but plan to stay on both. Can't hurt.
Hi..I am plagued by right hand tremor too, and was surprised to see B 12 helped your husband. How long was he taking it before it started helping ? Thanks !
I’m hoping some stuff he’s taking will delay or prevent it getting worse but time will tell! If b12 stops it at least he has been on that 18 months now.
We are lucky that he has the start of it at a time when there is more information than there used to be on what works. Hopefully something will delay it. He is still feeling very well apart from a little nausea from the mucuna first thing so that is a big improvement. We feel like we have him back! ( and now remembering all the annoying things that him being normal meant before and learning to appreciate them😁)
Yes he is. We have been a bit hit and miss with it with the virus distraction and he was becoming more lethargic and not getting up so he started taking it twice a day again and he has perked up again. It certainly makes him more motivated.
Thanks, I would really like to try it, but will have to be careful since it may elevate bp.
My energy level is awful. I tried getting Hardy's Essentials but they were sold out, but I was able to get their Women's vitamin complex. I think I will take 3 3 times daily as just 3 isn't doing anything..
Just check with them that the amount of everything is ok if taking more than the label. They’re not quite the same. You don’t want to overdo any of the minerals or vitamins that might build up. Also check that you aren’t also taking other individual products that are already in the Hardy’s as you don’t want to overdose on anything. They say it’s fine to take extra water soluble vitamins like b1 and c etc though, but I think I wouldn’t want extra folate or b6 say or iron etc. look at how much of each thing is in the DEN full dose and make sure you’re not taking more than that of each component.
A lot of the things hubby is on seem to say they cause lower blood pressure and high bp doesn’t seem to be a problem for him.
