Hey I been falling down on knees a lot.my knees are killing me. I think it’s the progression of Parkinson’s I tried to take long steps and put heel down first. But some reason I take out running. I know John chime in say have you tried fast walking, yes I have

I went to my Nero last month for 6 month follow up. I told him the Rytary was killing me the dyskinesia And the cramps in my right hand and fore arm and told him the pain was so bad I wanted some one just shoot me. I told him that Rytary screw me up.Taking that crap thery had me taking when I first started 4 145mg @ 6 and 9 and 12:00 pm and 3 And 6. Then head nurse had me drop down 3 145 at same time like before. Then this recent visit to my dr. He said he really wanted to help me. I had to much pain my knees hurt and my brain was in fog and my memory was falling.so now I’m doing Rytary 2 145mg at the same time as before . But killing pain quit in my right arm . I slower in morning getting around and lI don’t start falling down on my knees around 2 nd dose at 9:00am. I aways exercise every morning before I get on the Rytary roller coaster. I ‘m wearing double knee pads 24/7

There is more than one way to fall with Parkinson's. Can you give us a bit more detail of how you go about falling?

Rytary is for symptomatic relief. It is supposed to make you feel better instead of worse. Is it helping you? Also, your doctor can only determine the best dosage based on your feedback. It is up you to work actively with him or her with to determine what that this dosage might be.

When I get ready to stop I fall straight forward on my knees and some times I get up lead with my right leg and try to get back up I will go back down this willgo on 2 or three times.. I get pissed at myself I can’t walk. I had one those hover board about year and half ago. My doctor could not believe I rode it. I never fell riding on it was a blast. I guess I had natural lean forward. I gave to a friend daughter. I no when l try to carry some very heavy, I tend to fall on my knees.as for the Rytary is a dyskinesia drug that should be re consider bye FDA I get Dyskinesia when I start It in the first 15 min and at the end of dose I m getting it right now . I got to go to bed 🛏

I recommend that you cultivate patience and self observation. Consider how you can modify the way that you are handling yourself to avoid this mode of falling.

From the knees on the floor position, instead of trying to get up directly, bend forward and place your fists on the floor. Then straighten your legs, walk them towards your hands, and then return to standing by straightening up from the waist. Motor impairment is a challenge, but we can rise to the challenge by working with what is.

Obtain a wheeled walker and use it. One of these times you are going to land on your face.

Check out the Nitro rollaider (walker). The U-step is old engineering. The Nitro is state of the art with large wheels and 1/2 the price of the u-step.

Sounds like the rytary isn’t for u

Or u need further fine tuning

I take amantadine to combat the dyskinesia

It has helped immensely

Good luck

Be well

I taking Amantadine 100mg 2 time a day. I don’t know if it helps me that much. It makes my ankle swell and I think it makes making excess Saliva with the Rytary. I read a post on here awhile back a member said she ask her Dr. She wanted to try Rytary. The doctor said you want to shake more. Thank you 🙏

I've fallen a few times but usually I position myself so I can catch myself till I get stable enough to go. My new Neurologist listed I rarely fall when I told him that. One time I was doing a no no stepping over our two foot dog fence (We're full-time RVER's) my left leg froze in the up position and down I went popping something in my heel. I had to crawl back to the steps, that still hurts after a couple of years. However, I can not stand from the kneeling position.

Have u tried trekking poles or pole

Fishaholic profile image
Fishaholic in reply tojeffmayer

No, not yet I just seen this on Tv 60up.com it’s a balance board with two poles mounted on it.

Trekking poles are a good idea outside. Inside you need a walker without wheels. The most important thing at this point is to protect yourself from falls while you figure out medication.

Hi Fishaholic, I am on Rytary also. I too started on 3 of the 145mg capsules and the doctor kept adjusting the dosage and strength until it worked. I am now on 3 245mg capsules and I am able to function.

I also noticed that the best part of my day starts after the second dose. It took 6 month for the best results, so don’t expect a quick fix.
