Im leaving a nightmare..... I received this treatment at ER clinic looking for relief of a sciatica hurt (I have stenosis from significant scoliosis at lumbar region) Before that I was doing PD fair well three and a half c/l 50/200mg a day plus about 6 to 8 pills mucuna 15 % levodopa on my 13 year of the disease. Off periods were causing shuffling/freezing but I was functional can walk and do it all my self. First days after treatment for back pain I was doing better (I received one shot and 1/2 flexeril pill three times a day) at it seems PD symptoms improved. After a week I started my on periods get shorter and the off longer, come sudden, kick back of next pill take 2 or three hours. after my last c/l dose of the day I get immobile like legs disconnect from body can't move legs toes or make movements in the legs. I was in ER at observation my neuro said it is the effect fron flexeril.. I got a ct from my back and brain yesterday and have appointment again with neuro Tuesday......somebody have had some experience like this? what may speed the detox? thanks

I believe your neuro is correct.

drugs.com/pro/flexeril.html...

" The elderly may also be more at risk ... drug-drug and drug-disease interactions. For these reasons, in the elderly, cyclobenzaprine should be used only if clearly needed. In such patients Flexeril should be initiated with a 5 mg dose and titrated slowly upward."

Do you think an interaction could be happening with Green Tea 500mg extract pill that I take daily? Green tea works as a MAO.

Oh! MAOs are definitely a no-no in combination with Flexeril. The literature very strongly states these are not to be taken together.

Seems to me you can just do better with a different medication than flexeril. It's not supposed to be used for more than a couple weeks anyway and its contra-indications seem fairly dangerous.

I'm not well-informed on these medications and have no medical background, so this is pure speculation, but here goes:

The first two meds (Decadron and Depo-Medrol) you list above are steroids, and thus would have been given for an acute inflammatory condition. And they apparently helped your condition, which suggests that your sciatica was caused or exacerbated by an inflammatory condition, probably around the spine.

I'm assuming that you just had those two meds one time in the ER? You're not specific about that.

The flexeril is a muscle relaxant, and I'm assuming that you only had that as follow-on treatment, with the Decadron and Depo-Medrol being given just once in the ER...?

If that is all correct, then it seems possible that your current problems are due to the re-emergence of the inflammatory condition that caused your sciatica in the first place, and not due to the flexeril.

That could explain not only the symptoms of paresis in your legs, but also the increased Parkinsonism. Because inflammation anywhere in the body (in this case, in your spine) tends to increase neuroinflammation, and since PD is in large part a condition of neuroinflammation, the functioning of your remaining dopamine neurons would be further impaired by increased inflammatory intensity in your nigrostriatal area, in particular.

Since you cannot stay on steroids indefinitely, you might want to look into natural anti-inflammatories that reach the brain, such as specifically the Longvida brand of curcumin (which uses curcumin particles encapsulated in lipid shells to afford more access to the brain--one brand is Now's curcubrain product), and baicalin (one brand is a powder from liftmode.com). Also, EGCg, or just lots of decaffeinated green tea, has an important anti-inflammatory effect.

Of course, you will have to check any substances that you add to your treatment with physicians to ensure that there are no negative interactions with your existing treatments or conditions.

In relation to your off/on periods, have you considered Stalevo/Sastravi to increase your on periods?

Not what you're looking for?

Lets talk about levadopa. While it is reputed to be the most valuable medication in PD it can cause dyskinesia which alarms me.
