Yet, still more info on B-1 from Dr. Berg, 16 min video
This is a great find..... thanks!
Nice overview on B-1, thanks. I like Dr Berg. I use some of of his products. Evidently he has not heard about Dr C's HDT protocol. Maybe someone should clue him in.
Very informative Marc. Thanks so much, I’ll forward to others in our support group.
Interesting. Who is this guy? That seemed a balanced assessment. I have a hunch that it is always better to address any issue through diet rather than supplementation. Or as here, balance limited supplementation with diet and natural health. Although he bigged brown rice and pork he completely skipped wholegrain cereals which are a major dietary source of B1 (so bring on the bacon sandwiches). Is he a gluten nutter? I should cut back on the booze, but otherwise am feeling pretty smug about my Mediterranean diet and modest supplementation, including the vitamin b complex. Thanks for posting
Ah. Googled him. He's a supplement pedlar. I thought he was a bit keen for everyone to supplement, including himself exercising. Still thought it basically sound, particularly the advice to try some and see as an alternative to blood tests. But so much better if you have a balanced healthy diet as a base.
He is much less a salesman than most of the others like Drs. Jockers, Mercola, and Perlmutter and his videos are short and to the point. It's gotten so bad lately, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a supplement salesman/health Guru. They're like taverns in Wisconsin, i.e., there's one on every corner.
I don't find the high dose hype attractive but I do take 0.5gms of B1 (HCL) every night. The only improvement I can be sure of is that I can swallow the tablets more easily! But as the video points out what's not to like about B1.
Can somebody explain what he mention about People with Parkinson
At the end of the video. He mention a vitamin that the name start with
B. Thanks
He was using the word "benfotiamine" which is a fat soluble form of vitamin B1 which he said is good for people with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's -- if that is what you are asking?
Yes thank you very much
If you are interested in fat-soluble derivatives of thiamine, checkout sulbutiamine. Unlike thiamine, only a small portion of which crosses the BBB, much more of it crosses the blood brain barrier. Perhaps, for those of us who cannot detect a clear benefit to thiamine, maybe sulbutiamine is worth a try.
Hi Marc,
What about Dr. C? A lot of PwP here follow his B1 protocol. Are you suggesting to give sulbutiamine a try?
Not exactly. There's not even any anecdotes about it, but since it's fat-soluble and more easily passes the BBB, it is possible that it may work for those who are not feeling the love from thiamine HCl. I take 500 mg of HCl orally and I do an injection every 5 days or so and I see no reason not to throw sulbutiamine in the mix -- for myself, personally. Because it's fat-soluble, it'll have some advantages in other places in the body, too. (I try to keep overt suggestions of what other people should do to a minimum, if at all.)
Marc
That's an excellent idea, Marc. Thanks for the pass.
Why not Benfo? Is there a difference since both are fat soluble?
Dear Despe,
Thus it would seem from this research by L. Bettendorff that he is one of the greatest researchers of B1 in all its forms, also known by Dr. C. as explained by Antonio in an interview on YouTube. You can find the answer to the "conclusions" chapter.
Definition:”sulbutiamine, a lipid-soluble thiamine disulfide derivative.”

Gio, It's been a year now that my husband started IM B1 per Dr. C.'s protocol and after a lot of email exchange. I don't see any significant improvements. I think I see rather a little progression (more scooped posture), and swallowing problems (liquids only which cause him a little dry cough). Today he had his 50mg injection, second this week. I think it's time for him to stop the injections and have a lower daily oral dose. I don't know. . .wish we had someone like Dr. C. to consult and advise us what the right dose is.
Despe, I understand.
I can only answer your question about benfo etc. with this reference.
Take care, only you can do it better.
My husband was on the B1 for one month - 4 capsules daily (2 breakfast and 2 lunch). Around Sunday or Monday (I do loose track of time) his legs were weak and having trouble moving left leg and started to use his cane indoors. Took him off of the B1. We also took out the rollator walker in case he needed. Seemed to improve a bit by Wednesday as I noticed he wasn't using his cane or the rollator. But when I asked him today how his legs were he said not good. Guess this is a wait and see. Will go back on B1 as he did get immediate results (helped with constipation, rolling over in bed, better use of legs).
Linda,
My husband complains about his legs, hurting or being weak. When he had his first B1 IM injection, he felt and told him he was back to "normal." After this first enormous improvement, he experienced intermittent improvements, like arm swing, smell, and energy. After Christmas, I haven't noticed any of the improvements I described. He will probably go to daily, a lot lower dose, we'll see how he will respond as he is a responder.
Hi Despe
My understanding of B1 is that the dosage isnot one for lifetime and needs to be adjusted over time.I also tweak the dosage sometimes depends on symptoms and as I go on I get to know more my needs for B1 and adjustments.
My I ask if your husband is tremor or rigidly dominant?
Hello Kia.
We exchanged email consults with Dr. C. until he experienced his health problem. We trialed B1 over a long time. This time he will try lower (500mg) oral daily dose and see how he responds.
My husband is tremor dominant although not constant and not intense. He also had total thyroidectomy and doctor has adjusted his meds many times. Who knows!
Next week or two he will have carotid artery stenosis ( >70%) surgery. Cardiologist said that stenosis in that range affects thinking and memory. Both are PD symptoms and make someone wonder. . . He also had cardiac ablation in 2011. Lots of serious health problems.
Thank you Gio. Good links. I can't remember, but somewhere along the way, somebody must've had a reason why we should not also try sulbutiame either by itself or together? Do you know what that reason might be?
Marc, one of the most authoritative experts on this subject is Greenday. He has written numerous posts and replies about it, he could tell you something.

personally I prefer the good, old, genuine water-soluble Thiamine HCL.
I do injection twice a week with one week at month off.
I have been doing this for about four years, with some levodopa madopar.
No known side effects to me.
Never heard of nutritional yeast, is it wise to take it with B1 ?
Hi Connie
Nutritional yeast contains all B Vitamins , some even fortified with B12 and D vitamins.
I have never used it before but going to give it a try.

Thank you Kia!!😊 interesting he makes it sound like the nutritional yeast gives B1 an added boost
Berg tries hard, but sometimes he doesn't have a grasp of the science and it's obvious. Some of his earlier videos on the gut microbiome are crap (pun intended). Still, I'm glad he bought the $75 book so I don't have to, and it turns out that my wife is likely B1 deficient, so good to know.
Very helpful
I have started B1: I forgot to ask for hcl, have I got the wrong type.?
Excellent video! Thank you! Steven
I think it was very helpful I take vit B1 and I have Parkinson and I have made great improvements in only 7 months. I look forward to more of your videos.
thank you
