Brahmi, an age-old medicinal herb, can be very effective in preventing and even repairing the misfolding and aggregation of proteins in a paper published in Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics. The paper is authored by Prof Satish Kumar, Neelkanth Varma and Himanshi Kukrety from Laboratory of Forensic Biology & Biotechnology at GFSU, and Vijay K Ravi from SASTRA University, Thanjavur.
“We took lysozyme protein for our study and experimented with the commonly available Brahmi extract to understand its impact on aggregation. While it was a lab experiment, the results are very encouraging – exhibiting that the herb can not only prevent the process of protein aggregation but can also break the aggregated one and reverse the process
