Hi all am really struggling to sleep basically I am on when I put my head down but I wake after an hour or two and I can't turn etc too get comfortable etc basically I am paralysed (or feels like it) until I take my tablets which could be 3 hours away it's brutal not only for me but for my partner as I need her to massage my neck arms and legs due to cramp.
I take 100mg of half sinemet at night but doesn't seem,to help much randomly when I wake it's worked and can toss and turn.
Is they much I can do because the lack of sleep is so,bad!

Can you take more of your meds at night or perhaps a controlled release. I find myself sometimes taking my Sinemet two times in one night depending on how much I wake up.
Much better to be properly medicated than undermedicated. Also, most people find controlled-release / sustained-release / extended release is better than immediate release, especially at nighttime
Are you taking magnesium capsules? I would take at least four capsules a day, good form is magnesium glycinate. Also liquid magnesium that you can spray on works really well, right away. You still need the capsules. When you are having a cramp you can try a teaspoon of mustard or a swig of pickle juice, it will go away. Swansons Vitamins carries magnesium in a liquid form
liquid magnesium works on my calves, I don't know if I have restless leg or not but once in a great while it wakes me up and it feels just awful .I could not go back to sleep without putting the liquid magnesium on. Sometimes when my toes curl under and I spray my toes they straightened out and it really helps.
Definitely try magnesium before bed. Tablets and also in a bath if you can (Epsom salts). You could also try PEA (google the long name!) which helped me a lot with turning in bed but takes a few weeks to work.
Many of you know that I haven't been diagnosed with PD but have Intentional tremor and gait and balance problems. I joined HU to help my husband who was a PwP. Since he died a year ago, I've been battling to sleep. Now I take 2 caps of magnesium before bed and sleep very well. Can't turn in bed though!
I keep losing my reply, Brills. Third time lucky! I live in South Africa and use something called Slow-Mag. Each capsule contains 450mg Magnesium Amino Acid Chelate (Magnesium Lysyl Glycinate) equivalent to 45mg elemental magnesium.
I take a ropinirole (dopamine agonist) and a diazepam (muscle relaxant) at night. Seems to help some nights. Also I seem to sleep better if I have exercised during the day and if I have eliminated as much stress as possible before bed. The only way I have come up with to help this is put everything on a list and then at least I don't have to worry about forgetting anything.
I have recently acquired a cool pad for my bed and I’ve noticed a marked improvement in sleep. I’m dreaming where I never did before and less waking periods. This system is a small chilled water unit next to your bed with a pad comprised of coils under your sheet that makes hot or cold water. I also find the cannabis helps. But it supposed to mess with your deep REM sleep so it’s a bit of a Trade off. Try the cool pad I think you’ll be happy with it
For over a year I now use MELATONIN. Started taking 5 mg just before going to bed, then drop to 3 mg and now I take 1mg just before going to bed and with in 1/2 hr I'm asleep. I get up to pee about 2 - 3 time and fall right back to sleep. Blessed to sleep 8 to 10 hrs every night. If I have had a stress full day I add a tablet of VALERIAN (300 to 500 mg) to the Melatonin and sleep like a baby.
We completely understand same here. We take rytary though. ..it's an extended release, and helps a little more through the night but we take 2 tabs at 3 am as well. Magnesium powder in some warm water, helps calm the stomach and to sleep as well. Wish I could be of more help.
My husband used to sleep for a few hours and then wake about 2am and sit on the side of the bed or I would take him into the lounge and sit him in his chair for the rest of the night. About 18 months ago I started him on Low Dose Naltrexone. I did not start him for the sleep problems but because LDN can have very beneficial results for PD and quite a few other things. Almost straight away the sleep problems stopped and have stayed that way. Since then he has been diagnosed with PSP not PD but this could still maybe help you and maybe with other PD symptom's too. I found out about LDN on Colin Potters website. It is quite helpful for many PD people.
Over my 10 years with PD I’ve had various degrees of difficulty sleeping. I am unable to take C/L at night because it creates dyskinesia which awakens me and keeps me up. What works well for me now is taking one melatonin, time released, 3 mg by Source Naturals. In addition, I take two magnesium capsules Neuro-Mag, Magnesium L-Threonate by Life Extension. I take both 30 minutes before bedtime and buy them from Amazon.com. I hope this helps.
MAgnesium (threonate, glycinate, malate) is a great and healthy idea. Also taking a tsp of raw honey or a bit of MCT oil before bed may help and certainly won't harm.
My husband takes short acting Sinemet during the day and an Extended Release at bedtime to last through the night. I would recommend adding Melatonin 10 mg at bedtime. Ask your doctor if he/she will order the extended release tabs as this will help. Good luck
