High Dose Thiamine FAQ:

healthunlocked.com/parkinso...

Dosage is personal and seems to involve some trial and error.

If a person weighs less they may need less.

Dr Constantini has also said that people with northern European or African ancestry tend to require about half as much thiamine as Italians need.

So maybe such people could try a starting dose of 1.5g or 2g a day? (1500mg to 2000mg)?

I AM NOT A DOCTOR. I am just conveying Dr Constantini's advice.

It can take time for thiamine to reach a steady state in the body. If people take too much, their symptoms can get worse. In this case, Dr Constantini recommends stopping Thiamine for a week and then starting again at half the dose.

On the other hand, if a dose is well tolerated for a few weeks, you can try increasing to see if there are further benefits.

It would be good to learn, study and gain some knowledge before taking supplements, medicines and even vitamins to make the most appropriate and effective use. I know sometimes it seems difficult but for this there are sites like this where you can ask questions and have some reference that clarifies the doubts. The time we do not miss, the PD is a slow disease so: keep calm, be informed.

I would try 500 mg in the morning. You can add magnesium glycinate at the same time. After a week I would increase to 500 in the morning and 500 in the middle of the day. After taking it for a while I got a weird symptom of very high blood pressure. Very few people get this, so I would be on the lookout for it. Believe it or not, this is the only thing, the only supplement that's made any difference in my life, it's made it better and tolerable. Mary

So how much do you take now?

I still have to watch my blood pressure. I take 500 milligrams a day and some other days I take a hundred milligrams a day. So I keep on switching back and forth depending how I feel and what my blood pressure is doing. I got up as high as 3500 milligrams per day. I am assuming she should be able to handle thousand milligrams a day for quite a while. You can always experiment a little bit and increase the dosage down the road.

From having horrible balance, not being able to get in and out of bed except with great difficulty, forget about turning in bed to using electric toothbrush, things are a lot better now. Don't get me wrong, I am not back to normal by any means. Sending best wishes to your mom and you.

I thought I was replying to zunaid 755

The fact that your mom's symptoms are so poorly controlled this early in the disease process suggests that her meds need to be adjusted to improve her symptoms as much as possible before attempting to add anything else to her current regimen. At only 4 years since diagnosis, her doctor should be able to get her symptoms better controlled by either adjusting her current meds or switching her to other meds. Once that is done satisfactorily then you can start to consider HDT or other options.
