A new trial
Safety, Tolerability and Effects of Manni... - Cure Parkinson's
Safety, Tolerability and Effects of Mannitol in Parkinson's Disease (PD-mannitol)
This is good that they are testing this in a placebo-controlled trial.
Now we just need someone to do this for thiamine as well.
It would be nice if they gave more detail regarding their plan to administer "Gradually increased doses of oral D-Mannitol [or] Placebo (Dextrose monohydrate)".
Since the trial goes for 36 weeks, and the maximum dose is 18 grams per day, perhaps they plan to start with half a gram, and increase the daily dose by half a gram each week?
But I could find no indication that they plan to take the weight of the patient into account! Surely all the smaller/lighter patients will drop out with diarrhea long before they reach 18 grams per day?
The second "Primary Outcome Measure" is stated as: "Tolerability of oral mannitol in Parkinson's disease as assessed by the maximal daily dose (in grams, up to 18 grams per day) of mannitol that does not cause discomfort based on the subjective report by the patient".
So it seems they already know what is going to happen, but they just need to scientifically confirm it!
I read somewhere it was 12 g for approximately 70 kg person. That’s about 2 level teaspoons
Maximum dose Mannitol is better tolerated, by us smaller (52kg) folk, if taken through out the day (instead of at once) I also take ~ 2 spoonfuls, most days.
