Gum infection linked to Alzheimer's disease, new study suggests

In a new study, researchers have found that a bacterium largely responsible for gum disease also contributes to the development of Alzheimer's disease.

Older people who have full dentures or full upper and partial lower, tend to neglect their gums, as though the gums are no longer relevant since they no longer have teeth. The P. gingivalis and H.Pylori both contribute to gum disease, and P.gingivalis creates a toxic protein plaque that manages to find its way into the brain. If the toxic protein plaque on the brain cells of Alzheimer's disease patients are caused by P. gingivalis, then we should all take it very seriously indeed. Remember that only in 1983 was it discovered that the real cause of almost all stomach ulcers was H.pylori. Everything before that year was medical mythology. This could also explain why not all PD patients develop dementia as well. Before the 1940's when antibiotics were first developed, syphilis had been treated for hundreds of years with various forms of mercury, and countless thousands died of mercury poisoning.
