GABA great for Parkinsons and Insomnia!

I started researching online what I could take for my insomnia.

Long story short, I found GABA! Wonderful for insomnia! However,

I also found that A DEFICIENCY OF GABA CAUSES PARKINSON'S DISEASE!

The study also told me that L-theanine is a neurotransmitter, as well as being calming.

A link would be great ...

I gave the Michael J Fox Foundation the link and my text. I have not found the link yet, but I am still looking.

Maybe we can help you with that:

1. If you used the link recently, it should appear in your browser's "history" folder.

2. If you sent the link to MJFF, the email message should be in your "sent" folder.

So you read that a deficiency of GABA CAUSES PARKINSON'S - but is it true? As far as I know no one actually knows what causes PD. What is the evidence they gave?

I did an internet search and the link below came up. It refers to "GABA collapse Hypothesis.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

But there is also this, which suggests that GABA levels are low in untreated PWP, but normal in treated PWP.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/669...

Then there is this one which says there is evidence that GABA acts as a dopamine antagonist.

The blood brain barrier is the problem-most things have trouble getting past it!!

will there be a reason? or one thinks that about a hundred million years of evolution of Cellular Life is only produced errors.

The blood brain barrier it has its own why to exist. I would not force it.

I am just sharing very important information with others. My own mother had

Multiple Sclerosis, she died before anything was found. I gave the Michael J Fox Foundation the link and my text. I have not found the link yet, but I am still looking.

Theoretically GABA isn't able to cross the bbb...yet, it is still effective! Gaba works by slowing down hyperactive nerve transmissions which could be caused by short circuits or subconscious fear. GABA, Not the synthetic gaba anologue gabapentin, just to be clear.

Thank you for the differentiation. GABA vs. gabapentin. I tried gabapentin once. It seemed to worsen my Parkinson’s symptoms. If I had to get up in the middle of the night for an emergency of some sort, I would be useless! I didn’t sleep either, in fact, every prescribed sleep aid I have tried has had a similar effect to the one just described. I believe they are unsafe for Parkinson’s patients.

Right now I am taking melatonin two hours before bedtime and 1 ropinerol. I don’t have a 100% success rate, but sleep situation has improved.

I took GABA last night....slept better! I forgot about it and it has been sitting unused on a shelf. I will add it to my nightly mix. I am not groggy like with Melatonin in the morning.

Thanks for your post. I am also working on ordering the amino acids I need for brain function GABA being one of many since they work together. If anyone has info on safe dosages of phenylalanine, L-theanine, L- tyrosine, GABA, L-cystein, and 5HTP I would like to know and also if there is something I missed. I'm taking B6, B1 and other vitamins. Not following the Dr. M. Hintz protocol but it makes sense just not using high amounts as he suggested. Definitely feel more alive with the extra help from amino acids.

Could you tell me what 5HTP is please, also GABA which is the subject being discussed, as I am not familiar with either one, I have heard of the other amino acids mentioned. Suffering Socks

Here is a link about the amino acids that I found helpful. I don't use the amounts suggested but even lesser amounts of what is suggested and used in conjunction with Mucuna pruriens seems to help mood fluctuations. I'm fighting a loss of feeling pleasure or (anhedonia - form of depression?) and trying to address it with replacing amino acids lost.

google.com/url?sa=t&source=... (I Googled: 5 htp use in Parkinson's amino acids) As to GABA I am just trying to add it and haven't any results to verify if it works yet.

Going to research this some more. Thanks for motivating me!

What I understood from the link was that a deficiency of GABA was found in PWP, I didn't think it meant that it causes Parkinsons Disease, seems that could be a combination of many things, just saying. Suffering Socks
