Hello! I am very curious if others have had reactions to Sinemet. My husband has been on Sinemet for 3 years... the minimum dose. For the last year his quality of life has gone downhill. He was sleeping 10-12 hours a night and then falling asleep during the day. The daytime sleeping was very light as I could talk to him and he would be awake and alert. The daytime sleepiness would start about 45 minutes after taking the Sinemet, which he was taking 3 times a day. As long as he was engaged in an activity he did okay. His neurologist has reduced his Sinemet and started him on Rytary, a long acting carbidopa/levidopa. Since then he has been wetting the bed and sleeping 4-5 hours during the day. Yesterday he began having delusions and became very irritated and irrational. And he could hardly walk. I took him to the ER and all of his tests were normal. By the time we got home he was pretty much back to himself. Is it possible that one's body can't tolerate the synthetic carbidopa/levidopa? Any ideas? TIA

Wow finally someone else who finds sinemet puts them to sleep. I really feel your distress with this. The same happened to my hubby so he only takes sinemet x2 long acting tabs at 2am in the morning! He was sleeping during meetings and looking at having to stand down from his job and his neurologist was no help. Just suggested more drugs to wake him up!
He also takes a natural product to extend the life of sinemet in his body and is now on Dr Costantini's B1 protocol. He is sweet at the moment and we are happy. Good luck! The neurologist we saw suggested it was not sinemet causing the day sleeping and apathy, but sleep apnea. We obviously knew it was sinemet. Good luck working through this.
Hello. Thank you for replying to my message. Your hubby has apathy too? So does mine. A sleep study was done in Jan so it isn’t sleep apnea. I think part of the problem is that he has had 6 different neurologists in 6 years due to circumstances beyond our control. It is very frustrating. I will look into the B1 product. Thanks again!
