This is exciting research, most supplements cannot pass the blood brain barrier, hydrogen is the smallest molecule in the universe and can even repair mitochondria! It's safe, it's cheap and it's effective.
Drinking hydrogen enriched water (HW) reduced dopaminergic neuron loss
in a mouse model of Parkinson's disease. Notably, H2 [hydrogen] concentrations as low as 0.08 ppm exhibited nearly the same effects as saturated HW (1.5 ppm H2) [96].
In this a placebo‐controlled, randomized, double‐blind, parallel‐group clinical pilot study, the authors assessed the efficacy of H2‐water in Japanese patients with levodopa‐medicated PD. Participants drank 1,000 mL/day of H2‐water or pseudo water for 48 weeks.
Results
Total Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) scores in the H2‐water group (n=9) improved (median, −1.0; mean±standard deviation, −5.7±8.4), whereas UPDRS scores in the placebo group (n=8) worsened (median, 4.5; mean±standard deviation, 4.1±9.2). Despite the minimal number of patients and the short duration of the trial, the difference was significant (P<0.05).
------------
A small study but very encouraging results for another inexpensive treatment.
Hi ParkB. Is the result you mention above significant or is this a negligeable increase of benefit? : "UPDRS scores in the H2‐water group (n=9) improved (median, −1.0; mean±standard deviation, −5.7±8.4)".
Tiny trial, result just barely stat sig according to the investigators, needs confirmation. But OTOH this is an actual human result as compared to, say, fruit flies.
