Has anyone had issues with balance getting worse on Azilect?

My mom just started Azilect. She has been taking sinemet since January 2017. She takes 4 pills a day (25/100). She is on day 7 and says she feels like she will fall and her legs feel rubbery. I made an appointment for this Wednesday with neuro to discuss but feel she needs to stick this out. Her dose of Azilect is half for first two weeks and I feel her anxiety is causing her to overreact. She has been nervous about this drug since she started it. Had a bad experience with neuro patch so now worried about all new drugs. Advice needed 😁

Been on rasagiline (generic Azlitect) for over a year. No side effects at all.

Never did anything for me either way. The evidence for it slowing progression is weak. Even if her reaction is nerves I don't see a need to push it.

Do explain to her that the neupro patch is a kind of drug (dopamine agonist) notorious for causing problems.

Azilect is not a new drug. It is the only Pd drug type that has been proven to have some positive effect on the progression of Pd. All the others are designed to treat the symptoms by temporarily hiding them. That does nothing to slow down the progression of your Pd.

If you want to take action to slow down the progression of your Pd or even reverse it, as I have, then you should look int doing some meaningful exercise, even if that sounds impossible. It isn't.

Look at my website - reverseparkinsons.net and contact me to get a lot more information at no cost to yourself.

My mom was diagnosed in August 2016 but had obvious symptoms before that. Neurologist put her on sinemet in January 2017. It stopped the tremor but her movement is not as good. She works out with a trainer twice a week and tries to walk 30 minutes a day on the other days. She just started Azilect. I worry that we started this drug too late. Our neurologist is very much for exercise and encourages it. I hope it is not too late. Together we are going to get her walkmh up to speed starting this week with a goal of walking one hour at her gym (indoor track) by August.

On first day she felt so dizzy she could not walk. She told me it was the worst she had ever felt.

I was on azilect for about 3 months. I could not even remember three numbers strung together, if somebody told me them and asked me to repeat them. I thought I was losing my mind. Then I got the really bad side effects listed in the brochure and I stopped. A lot of people do very well on azilect myself I did not so you might want to watch your mom.

When started on 1mg Azilect I've developed brain fog and had difficulty concentrating, so cut it down to 0.5mg which was ok for a while but 6 months later started having daily headaches and discontinued it. Then in a couple of weeks headaches stopped which confirmed that it was the culprit and I no longer use it, however we all have different biochemistry and some people claim good results on Azilect.

Azilect has a mild effect and it was probably given to your mother to enhance the effectiveness of sinemet. Good on her for sticking it out. I hope you can encourage her, drugs when you start can be scary and it is good to have support. I dont know what the weakness is, i hope it passes, if not then let the neuro know.

The patch is a completely different type of med and takes time to adjust to it. The dizziness could have been a drop in blood pressure.

PS: There is no proof that Azilect has been proven to have a positive effect on the progression of Pd. It may do but the jury is still out. Nor has fast walking been proven to reverse symptoms, of course exercise in general is good.
