The standard immediate release "dispersible" Madopar may be dissolved before taking: "Dissolve in a little water or orange squash (not fresh orange juice). Use at least 25 ml liquid" so chewing would amount to the same thing.

Contrariwise, timed / controlled / sustained release versions may not be chewed or dissolved. Personally I find such versions work much better for me.

Hi Steffi,

I am a 69 yr old female who has been diagnosed for 14 years. Although I have had some very bad times, especially in the first few years, by sheer hard work (doing all the things I was asked to do) & by following the advice offered re meds regime I am gaining more & more control. One of my recurring issues is the need to kick - start the day before I can get moving & thinking properly. Chewing a dispersible Madopar works for me. Dispersible just means that it it will dissolve & by chewing it with a sip of water it gets into the stomach & bloodstream more quickly. As Parkbear points out this only works with the plain version not with any variants.
