My experience with Madopar is a)line your stomach with a piece of cracker, b)take the dosage with some water, c)drink some orange juice with bits, d)eat a small red apple. It kicks in by then. 10 mins.

Levodopa is the active reagent in Stalevo and Madopar and Sinemet. Stalevo also contaians Entacopone which is meant to keep your on-time for a while longer.

After I take a Madopar I have to wait an hour before it takes effect.

I would have thought that if any of these resulted in tremors then that would be Madopar or Stalevo i.e. of all these it is only the Levodopa`which may cause dyskinesia `which I suppose is a bit tremor like.

Where do you get the pain and what type of pain is it?

fyi dyskinesia is like tremors on steroids

That sounds like fun then, not! Are you able to control any of these movements perhaps while purposfuly involved in some activity or other?

I wonder if those muscles involved with the dyskinesia get stronger or not?

It's not really fun. The muscles that become dyskinesiac are those not affected by PD but yes I can't sit and type but I can get up and clean or go for a walk if I can get dressed. The muscles do get stroonger. The muscles affected by PD are already way too strong due to dystonia. oh well.

I go to exercise class for Parkinson's every week and none of the people there have had any pains in their muscles they suffer more with tremors but I was told everyone as diff symptoms the exercise class helps I am worse walking getting out of breath but side efforts of tabs the nurse is going to try me on a drink to take a sip of when meds are wearing off.

Anthonyan,

Madopar is the same thing as Sinemet except for a different carrier that allows the dopamine to pass through the brain barrier. Stelevo is Sinemet that has an additive Entacapone built in which allows the dopamine to last longer than regular Sinemet. To get the same effect using Madopar you would need to take Entacapone (Compt) separate only available in 200mg along with each Madopar dose. You need to time your doses so that they do not wear off.

If you are taking 100mg Madopar with one Compt try your next doses at two hour intervals, if they don’t wear off then try upping the time between doses until you find your limit - where they start wearing off. You may also find that there is a buildup of dopamine throughout the day and your subsequent doses will last longer. You may also need to increase the Madopar to 150mg or 200mg. It’s all about experimenting to find out what works best for you and gives you the best quality of life. Letting your dose wear off is not really an option other than after you have fallen asleep at night.

Good luck
