Is it true? Alcohol and/or Marijuana open BBB blood brain barrier?

LOVE your explanation, Prayingforacure !! It is soooo true! My parky spouse is a retired pastor. RE: drinking alcohol. Our nurse manager says alcohol (as does medical marijuana) opens the BBB (blood brain barrier) allowing Levodopa through for better effectiveness. One has to wonder: WHY don't doctors TELL US, so that we can use this to our ADVANTAGE?? they must be afraid of potential alcoholism b/c it needs to be taken prior to med doses 3-4x/day. I wish my Parky husband would try it, he does drink occasionally, but it's against his values to do a few sips 3xday and he's not very able to understand the explanation of it. I think it could be a real advantage if it would work, worth the risk maybe! Too bad.

Medical marijuana is approved here in MN (for sleep apnea which he has long hx of) but our facility claims they have no protocol for it and cannot do it. WHY can't they do it just like locked and counted narcotics? (I'm a retired RN) I don't see how they can legally DEPRIVE their patients of quality of life d/t enhanced well-being and dramatic relief of extreme anxiety with panic attacks. I'm taking this to our ombudsman.

INVITATION: Maybe others can report their own experiences with alcohol and/or medical marijauna, anyone else report relief? the OTC CBD is NOT consistently reliable or standardized and can be a total rip-off, I've heard.

Are you stuck using that same facility? Here in San Francisco, you go to one place for a the staff doctor's recommendation and to a dispensary -- you have your choice of many -- to buy mm in whatever balance (CBD to THC) or product (smokable, edible, etc) you wish.

Or rather, that is as it used to be. Now there is no OK from a doctor needed, as marijuana has been approved for any use, not just medical.

thank you for your reply, Beckey, it should be so in all states! I WISH we could move to CA, my son lives in San Diego! but my huband's daughters live here near Mayo Clinics, MN. they want to be near their Dad, but all of us are distressed watching him suffer so severely! whatever happened to medical ethics to relieve pain & suffering? Isn't it a pity! I want my son to bring us mm next time he visits. Is he @ risk bringing it on airlines? maybe brownies would work? thanks for yur concern Beckey!

You might contact the folks at The Stanley Brothers, a Colorado medical marijuana producer. Ordering from them by mail may be a good option. They will be able to advise you. Good luck, Sonja. I'll be hoping for a speedy solution for you and your husband.
