Rytary is just a time release version of carbidopa levodopa, very similar to Sinemet CR. If you are taking the immediate release version of Sinemet this may very well help you. If you are already taking the CR version of Sinemet there will not be much difference.

I've been taking Rytary for 2 years now. I found a big difference between taking the CR of Sinemet and Rytary. I don't have the painful affects I had taking Sinemet.

i have really bad dyskenesia will the rytary help with that? My Dr said she may take me completely off the C/L and switch to Rytary but i thought it was the same thing?

Hi Robyn that's the same problem I was having. It comes in 2 different doses I am taking the higher dose. Why I don't have the same problem I was having with the Sinemet I am not sure. For me it made a huge difference.

So the cinema gave you dyskinesia as well and the rytary does not? Thank you for the info that's very helpful I may just go ahead and try it cuz this dyskinesia is horrible and painful

Please keep me posted how you do on it. Rytary has only been available in the last 2 years,

Why would she switch if its the same thing? No matter what does i take of C/L i have this dyskenesia and it is painful

Mistydog's actual experience prevails over my theoretical assessment.

I quit Sinemet having tried both immediate and timed release. I now take dopa macuna (3 caps, 3 X a day), plus a very low dose of carbidopa, and ondansetron to curb nausea. What can I say? It works. Hallelujah!

Where do you buy the dopa macula caps?

Beckey, which brand do you use? I've tried three different brands with somewhat inconsistent results. So I'm just curious what you are having success with. Have you tried to take EGCG with it? Thanks!

We had excellent results with Rytary. Many docs don’t know how to dose it and try to make a 1:1 transition but it doesn’t work that way. they should work with the manufacturer service dept to make sure they are doing it right.

We did NOT find Rytary similar to CR Sinemet. It was much better.

so if i take 25/100 C/L CR 3 times a day what would the dose be for Rytary?

Donzim profile image

You need to ask ur doc and ask him to verify that with Rytary

I TAKE 1/2 OF A SINEMET 25\100 6 TIMES DAILY STARTING AT 6AM. DONT REALLY FEEL THAT GOOD UNTIL AFTER 4PM. WHY IS THAT? CUTTING BACK TO 1/2 SINEMET 5 TIMES DAILY AND FEELING BETTER. WHAT'S UP?

mistydog1 profile image
mistydog1 in reply toTmarsella

Just curious why not take a full Sinemet 3-4 times a day? If it takes you an entire day to feel better maybe your not reaching the required dose. One Sinemet is suppose last 31/2 - 4 hours if your cutting that in half your probably having more off time because the next dose takes awhile to kick in. Your not taking the full dose so it wears off quicker maximum 11/2-2 hours is all your getting.

Misty dog. But feel BETTER when I reduce from 6 to 5 half sinemets.

I was constantly falling down with sinemet ; it just made me so dizzy. Now with rytary I feel a little loopy, but I am not falling down. However my ankles have swollen.

I was taking regular c-l dopa 25/100’s every 2 hours d the CR every time I woke up at night to control my foot dystonia. I found it to be a very difficult time to eat anything particularly protein. It was also failing due to off periods.

I’m now on Rytary and have cut the dosage by 35% On a daily basis and stretched the tome out to every 4 hours giving me a chance to eat meals. I think it’s great once you have figured out the dosage and time intervals which are probably very individualized.

It is expensive but I have found a program called the Assistance Fund... TAFcares.org that helps immensely.

Can you tell me more about how you worked around meals in your dosage times?

etterus profile image
etterus in reply toPamelaLynn

I usually don’t eat for 30+ minuets before a dosage and an hour after. If I can’t control the time I will take a regular c-l dopa before the meal by at least 20 min.

this was the best med my husband took. it was not like any of the combinations or regular carb/levo like sinemet. you just have to have a doc who understands the odd conversion from regular c/l to this one and proscribes it correctly. the manufacturer can help with that.

I couldn't tolerate Sinemet. I've been on Rytary for nearly 3 years. Best experience with a med that I've had. Only problem I've had was my doc wanted me to take a pill every 6 hours, which was way too long. Lasts about 4 1/2.

Someone here said there are two dose sizes, but there are 4. Here's a conversion chart: rytaryhcp.com/professional-...
