He thought he had to stay strong

He thought he had to stay strong for his wife Heidi and their two children, and viewed the disease as something to overcome. Because exercise can slow the disease, Bucklew’s athleticism supported research and his own health. A previous article on his situation stated that his doctors told him the the disease is progressing “at the slowest they’ve seen.”

Great article! How I wish I had slow progression. I was just at neurologist office last week, and had progressed further than what I’d thought, in spite of me doing more exercise etc. That means the medicine dosage was upped in order to compensate, by the doctor, and more evaluations and doctor visits in a few weeks. I’m not looking forward to that because, like most Parkies, I’d just as soon not have this ailment.

Slow Progression-----

If I hear," that is not Parkinson,s, you have always been that way, just more so lately," I think I will scream.

I went down that road eight long years. The doctor told me the same thing. There were no neurologist’s in the small town I lived in. I was ready to scream too-many times, so I know exactly what you mean. After moving to the big city and seeing the neurologist, I found out that, all along my problem was Parkinson’s. I had had numerous falls, injuries, tremors etc. for a long time, before, finally, I got the help I needed.

I was actually relieved when a neurologist told me I had Parkinson’s. For two years I went to different doctors (foot doctor, chiropractor, my GP, etc.) and no one said Parkinson’s, even though, through my own research, that’s what I thought I had. That was 6 years ago.

Good inspiring article Roy.

An observation. I wouldnt place much belief in the report that the doctors said they had never seen such slow progression. I reckon thats mis reporting or those doctore haven't seen many people with pd or else its fake news :). Why do I say that? Well he was diagnosed 5 yrs ago and where once he ran marathons, climbed mountains etc now 5 yrs on it says he is walking because he cant run. Thats noticable progression. Do others notice these inconsistencies ?

It doesnt detract from the fact that it is a great undertaking.
