Bush senior passed away due to Parkinson

May his soul rest in peace

He had struggled for days, not getting out of bed, eating almost nothing, seemingly in decline from the Parkinson's disease that had restricted his speech and mobility in his last years.

Due to the sanctions put by his son ( Bush junior) on stem cells research , the efforts for finding the cure or halting the disease progression by utilizing stem cells were almost seized.

There is a lesson in it for those who are on the helm of affairs today.

PD didn’t kill him!

yes but he suffered more than that due to PD

Yes we all are quite aware of what PD can do but it doesn’t kill you directly and yes he was a great man and underrated President.

yes, I agree

in reply toNitro53

True. He did not have PD. Vascular Parkinsonism is not Parkinson’s Disease. It only shares some of the symptoms of PD - like MSA.

Thank you for pointing out the irony.....Pres Bush and Pres Bush the son.

The same irony occurred with Pres Reagan (Alzheimer's) and his wife Nancy who at first opposed stem cell, but when Pres Reagan became DX did a u-turn.

According to his good friend, James Baker, Bush ate a large breakfast on Friday morning. He was a nice man, according to the many people who spoke about him and who knew him well. I think history will be kind to him.

I really get upset, after a while, when people constantly say, or I read, that nobody dies from PD, implying that it is just, perhaps a nuisance, type disease. As one who has suffered greatly from the impact of dealing with what Parkinson’s Disease has done to my motor and autonomic function bodily symptoms, I know for a fact that, esophageal dysphagia, as just one symptom, could be directly attributed to dying from Parkinson’s disease. Neuro-degenerative diseases are not to be taken lightly, and, just because some people might be mildly affected, does not mean that there are others who, each day, struggle, just to get through each day!

Update- correction- I should have written otopharangeal dysphagia ( rather than esophageal ). Sorry about that.

Stem cell research has not been halted-restrictions on embryonic cell use yes. Abortion for the sake of the living is criminal. When research monies can be use on research using an individuals own cells, that’s progress. As a care giver to dear husband and therapist to many PWPD the progression of the disease can cause death due to aspiration pneumonia. I encourage all PWPD to get a baseline swallowing/voice exam and regular reevaluations. Living fully each day requires follow-up and encouragement from professionals. We’re out here to help you!

I wonder how many other people with Parkinson's disease were able to overcome dehabilitation, think of the ability left not disability and Skydive three times in the last chapter of their life?

in reply toCoot18

If I remember correctly he was diagnosed with Parkinson's after the skydiving adventures in his eighties

That's right ! I remember when he did that. I was so angry, and didn't even have PD at the time. The extreme religious groups influenced this decision .
