What do people think of the new groundbreaking find with Huntington disease.? A gene siliencing drug found to significantly deacrease the protein in that disease. Apparently has implications for PD and Alzheimers. Don't know how to add the link, but was headline news here in NZ yesterday.
Huntington breakthrough (good news for PD... - Cure Parkinson's
Huntington breakthrough (good news for PD too?)
Stunning.
For those families with a Parkinson’s caused by such a mutation it must be like an early Christmas.
For the rest of us? Well any breakthrough lifts the spirits.
I read that. Apparently HUntington's genetic roots are known and fairly simple, PD is a much more complex disease as far as genetics goes. As far as I understood this news, there's no direct benefit for PD, however it could lead to more research that could bring benefit.
I do not understand that nobody has come up with a cure of some sort for PD over the past 50 years,is it a lack of money for research?
I am confident that we are closer and closer to finding the trigger for PD and a cure. Yes, and that includes a reversal to good health for those afflicted. Repurposing existing drugs may be the jumpstart that is so overdue. There are too many brilliant and dedicated researchers who have committed themselves to this effort.
In the meantime, PWP need to do what's best for them. Eating right, exercise, staying on schedule with meds, keeping all Dr appointments, and staying positive. We all struggle at times and have our doubts. Remember, the plane takes off into the wind, not with it.
Take care and keep moving. Happy holidays to all!
