Paleo diet or else: Who has some positive... - Cure Parkinson's
Paleo diet or else
My husband has tried numerous diets, must very restrictive and nit easy to stick to especially fir someone who likes to eat out ! We have found the most successful is restricting processed food , making everything from scratch , I bake biscuits, cakes bread. We found trying to stick to say gluten free was quite stressful and we gave noticed with John stress is the worst culprit for reducing the effectiveness of his medication. After nearly 12 years - 9 medicated - he is doing well, . The main diet related thing we do besides fresh as much as possible, is timing medication with protein, making sure he leave 1 hour before and 1 hour after tablets. Fingers crossed he continues with his good health , medication hasn't been altered fir over a year 😀
I would say the protein would have to be monitored as it tends to be quite high on Paleo living but if spaced properly shouldn't be an issue with Parkinson's medications. Essentially fresh fruits and veggies, nothing processed and almond and coconut flours instead of wheat is generally a good change. I find strict Paleo hard to maintain but was Paleo before my Parkinson's diagnosis. It always helped me sleep better and eliminates crashes through the day. Also lots of fibre onthis plan so these all help Parkinson's.
I've posted numerous times about having good luck with reducing my symptoms with a ketogenic diet. It takes a lot of work to get it right. Not only do you keep your carbohydrates low but I've found that you have to carefully monitor and moderate your protein intake.

Lectin-avoidance diet is amazing for me. It is very restrictive, but having two painful bouts of multi-focal dystonia prior to starting the diet and never wishing to experience such pain again has kept me on the right track. I look at it as ensuring my future is symptom-free or minimal and that is worth it. Not sure? just hang out with someone with PD off their meds for a day and see what the future holds...it will make you change your diet immediately and forever. My dad had it for 23 years...I already saw the path I refuse to go down. Plant Paradox is a good book to read for info regarding lectin-avoidance diet. Don't buy any of his supplements though, you don't need them.
