Thanks so much for the link. This was very interesting and based for the large part on research but also matches with common sense related to diet, exercise and social connection for example.

You can have the mediterranean diet, exercise a lot and be socially connected but you still get PD - maybe it is delayed as she says. I have noticed how common it is here and on other notice boards for pwp to have a parent or grandparent with pd. So I think it is largely hereditary and not so much environmental except for those with high exposure to chemicals. Diet and exercise may impact the timing of when someone gets it but if they are unlucky gene wise they are stuffed. I am surprised that so many doctors don't talk about this.

Again, thanks.

there's a lot of hereditary pd type cases around here, but they also have a lot of iron in drinking water.

I heard too much iron causes constipation and retardation in children.....explains some things around here, a mentality of sorts. ouch!

Heather Zwickey PhD, who presented at the WPC in Portland this past September, has a new book out. "Eating Better for Parkinson's". It is available in print or ebook on Amazon.

I'm thinking the same thing. In the meantime, I'd like to find out how to get the slides on the video and see how much I can learn about her program and org.

speaking of proactive.......my affected leg started to creak with every step so I took 1/2 of my levodopa pills and I don't know what the pharmacist thinks immediate is but I noticed the creak went away the following day, give or take couple hours.

I tested it following days and again it did the trick.

my lounge chair has seen snow and rain and now is buried in tall grass, but very little sun. we're having one of those years........so I took another levodopa pill, half a pill this time. over two days. I think. excellent results with just one pill, but worst balance problems than ever when I didn't follow up with a third pill..

desided to take a antistatx I bought over the counter for swelling of affected thigh. hope it's not a placebo effect because it's loosened my affected fingers (ring and pinky). going to put levodopa on hold.

the least they can do is measure my what's it levels first (homocysteine levels) apparently pd'ers have higher levels of homocysteine and levodopa raises homocysteine levels even more causing hyperhomocysteinism. treated with bvitamins. we also are often low in q10, a diagnostic marker.

oh yah, believe it or not it seems the levodopa cleared my itchy ear significantly, something I use lactaid for usually. been eating ice cream and cheese........without my lactaid!?!?!?

Thanks for posting. Very good information. She talks about giving her patients Vitamin C packets with electrolytes. I've been taking Emergen C which has both in it, plus B vitamins & magnesium & I feel it's been helping me.

"FAT CELLS MAKE INFLAMMATORY CHEMICALS!" Wow! The best ever reason to not be a PWPD and overweight. I have about 20 pounds to shed. I must remember to ask my primary if she has heard of a Parkinson's disease panel.

I've watched her presentation twice and keep learning. I am taking notes to be beter prepared with questions the next time I visit my MD.
