i'm confused i thought drinking and pd was a no - no can we have a drink once in awhile?
It hasn't stopped me, though I don't drink much. A couple of glasses of wine a week, an occasional beer if I am thirsty, the odd Southern Comfort. Can't answer for those with a higher consumption than me but my consultants have never indicated a problem.
However, it could be that alcohol will exacerbate the drowsiness caused by the meds.
I can't even have vanilla extract without getting drunk. This is since PD.
Used to enjoy a margarita or my smokey tasting dark red Italian. Yum!
Don't think alcohol is good for the brain, at least not good for mine.
You're right there are different opinions, but I'll go Dr. Blaylock's way since I don't want more brain damage.
I rarely drink alcoholic beverages and when I do it's usually an Irish coffee or a beer. I haven't noticed any problem.
Personally, I have found that the odd glass of wine does not affect me. However, it does affect some people. I think if you feel like a drink have one. If it affects you, at least you know for the future.

Just like anything else don't over due and know your limit.
Mine is two
I don't know if we should or if its good for us but pd certainly isn't
my doctor encourages it. He's from Genoa. I can't have just one so I'll stick to coffee but hey enjoy
ANY ALCHOHOL DOES NAKE ME FEEL REALLY DRUNK - WHICH IS A SHAME AS I USED TO ENLOY A FEW GLASSES OF WINE OR A GOOD SLUG OF GIN AND TOINIC
I drink because it is enjoyable and I want to cherish what is enjoyable. I also did notice getting completely tipsy on hardly anything, so just a small amount almost daily. I did notice I fall more without the alcohol, which is funny. Maybe because a glass of wine is relaxing. I spill most of it anyway, so I'm careful with red wine!
I enjoy my beer, but I don't drink as much. I drink 2-3 beers on Sundays with my 2 brothers-in-laws then the buzz hits me. I stay away from mixed drinks, especially shots. One time while living in Las Vegas, the Jim Bean shot females were giving samples and I became fixated watching someone play video poker. My tolerance for shots is not far from Doc Brown from Back to the Future III. I stick to beer.
I have 2-3 glasses of wine per day on average. Sometimes none but some times more if I'm at a party. The key is to sip slowly and eat meals with it plus plenty of water.
I enjoy a glass of wine daily before dinner.
I enjoy my wine., My doctor said it was OK. I was losing a lot of money though because I would spill most of it as it was heading towards my lips. I solved that by ask for straw with my wine.. Now I get an entire glass of wine AND some strange looks from the waiter and the customers.
thanks for the straw i'm already getting strange looks for the ice
Double check with your neurologist and your pharmacist. Mine both left it up to my judgement. Most days I have a single beer and or glass of wine during dinner. I can drink a bit more but more than 2 in a relatively short period of time i am useless. Okay then, off to the kitchen for a irish whiskey rocks...
lol

I have given enough to this thing, we are robbed of most of the basic enjoyments of life. Sex is now something we remember, or struggle through when at one time it was soooo important. Walking, talking, hell pooping was all so simple and easy. Now we don't sleep, going out in public is tough. At home I will have a couple glasses of wine, doesn't seem to effect my, so what the hell. I can't give everything to this disease or there will be nothing left of me, and at that point, what iis the point. I need to have something to enjoy from my life before PD. I'll deal with that part ending, when it too must end. Until then "A votre sante".
I get the most horrendous hangover from a small glass of wine. I'm taking Azilect so that may be the problem - too much stress on the liver. I know another PDer my age who drinks at least a bottle of wine a day (but had to stop Azilect because his liver couldn't cope) and says he never gets hangovers. Also if I drink my walking gets very bad and I look very very drunk. I miss it but it's not worth the price I have to pay.
