Interesting though long. The 2nd article said PD people have gastro problems years before they get PD. I wonder what that means.
I have been to an integrative GP and had a stool sample tested. I have then been told to take around 5 different pro biotic supplements to try and restore the balance. I have too much of some bacteria and too little of others. It is very complicated. Thankfully I can stop with the sauerkraut as I have enough of whatever fermented foods provide! I also have to eat 7 to 10 serves of veggies a day and avoid sugar, eggs, gluten, and dairy. I have managed to do about 80% of the diet and have no constipation or bloating and have lost a few kgs (and am now my perfect weight).
However, not sure it has helped with the PD! I am slowely getting worse - maybe it would have been faster without this, and it's was hard in the beginning to change my diet. Now I actually miss my veggies if I don't get enough.
Anyway, I'll press on with it and see what happens. I expect it all takes time.
Astra, Can you name the 5 probiotic species you were told to take ?
These are the brand names: mutaflor, arabinoguard, orthoplex GIT, intestaclear orthoplex and Berberine.
They are all meant to give me a healthy gut. Not sure they are all probiotics as some can't be taken by mouth, but they are to get the right environment to promote the growth of the good ones.
Worth a try I guess though I am sick of taking so many things!
Hopefully mannitol will prove to prevent misfolding of alpha synuclein.
IN the Probiotic approach to treating disease we are still in the infancy !
That's why Fecal Matter Transplant from a healthy donor is THE BEST treatment.
But the FDA says feces is a drug so only one approved use of it. C. Diff. infection that is resistant to antibiotics ! And you know what that means in practice, you need to be dying in the ICU with antibiotics pumped into your body to allow you FM Transplant.
It was very impressive when I read that an Australian doctor treating C. Diff infection with FMT in patient with PD noticed that after treatment not only the C. Diff was cured but the PD symptoms vanished also ! So he send the patients to the neurologist and found NO symptoms of PD ! That is amazing and goes towards the PD starts or "sourced" from the intestine hypothesis.
