Viruses, microglia, causes of Parkinson's... - Cure Parkinson's
Viruses, microglia, causes of Parkinson's? Very interesting article
Oy, what a mess this article is. Victims of the Spanish Flu left frozen were only temporarily helped by levodopa so what they had was not PD as we know it. The mice who suffered parksonsim as a result of being infected with a virus reversed their condition after recovery, so that not PD either. Then this:" Parkinson’s disease was not associated with previous influenza infections. BUT, they did find that Influenza was associated with Parkinson’s‐like symptoms". Sorry but this writer is wasting our time.
One cause of PD is the permethrin insecticide which is likely how I got mine: tinyurl.com/yd4xz9yz
Excellent article on PD and pesticides, park-bear. Definitely a saver. Did you write it?
Is NAC the same thing that is in CHK's CysReplete?
Two capsules has the following folate 133 micrograms selenium 134 micrograms l-cysteine 1500 mg
NAC is N-acetyl cysteine, shown in this study to be helpful in PD: journals.plos.org/plosone/a...
Thanks kindly, dumpelkin. Yes, I wrote it. Here is another with some useful information: dailykos.com/story/2016/3/2...
Oh here I go again. My finger just decides to fall into doing this as I scroll through. Sorry.
I have read several good articles from The Science of Parkinson's website (and this is not one of them). The problem with a viral theory of PD is it is more smoke than fire and viral infection theory starts to sound like the boogie man in the closet - its there, you just can't prove it.
When I started the second half of my documentary, the etiological/causative narrative, I choose bacteria over viruses because there is more 'meat and potatoes' and in comparison, viruses offered a vegan diet.
In Pd studies Helicobacter pylori looms large as does a bacterial imbalance in the intestines. In 2 different studies researchers injected sub lethal doses of nocardia bacteria and rhodoccocus bacteria into rodents and this produced (in some rodents) PD-like symptoms and the animals were L-dopa responsive. Amantadine originally was used for influenza infections (more on this later) and how many antibiotics, which only work on bacteria, have been shown to be neuroprotective in PD models? Minocycline, doxycycline, ceftriaxone, rifampicin, ampicillin, PAS, dapsone, seromycin/cycloserine... and others have improved PD symptoms by relieving constipation in PD patients.
Dapsone is interesting for a number of reasons. Diaminodiphenyl sulfone is its cheminal name and,

Leprosy is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae, which is closely related to M. tuberculosis, the cause of TB, and it is also related to nocardia and rhodoccocus. Leprosy has been shown to be genetically related to PD thru the parkin gene and the #1 antibiotic for leprosy is Dapsone. (Rifampicin, seromycin and PAS are TB antibiotics.) I will stop here & go to Encephalatis lethargica, featured in this article.
Many people have clung to a viral theory of EL like it was a security blanket and after examination of the evidence, I have discounted this theory. Let's start with this juicy article,
The Demise of Poskanzer and Schwab’s Influenza Theory on the Pathogenesis of Parkinson’s Disease
"In the 1950s and 60s, two Harvard neurology based faculty, David C. Poskanzer and Robert S. Schwab, put forth a bold hypothesis that Parkinson’s disease was due to influenza and that Parkinson’s disease as an entity would “die out” by 1980."
hindawi.com/journals/pd/201...
If only.....Poskanzer advocated the use of amantadine for PD.
When I find time, and money, I am going to finish a documentary about Encephalitis lethargica and through my investigation, including reading original documents from the 20's, I concluded the diplococcal form of the streptococcus bacteria caused EL and the following article's conclusion is correct:
Mystery of the forgotten plague
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/...
Prior to the electron microscope any microbe which could pass through a small nm filter was considered a virus and it has been long proven bacteria can be incredibly small and pass through a filter. Case and point, ultramicrobacteria are the smallest lifeforms on the planet:
huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/...
Hence, in the day, anything small was called a virus. What tipped the scales toward me supporting that streptoccus was the causative agent in EL, was a 20's article which described a 'virus' (that was derived from a human being) that kept causing EL in lab animals. The morphological terms which were used to describe the virus by the doctors, were bacterial terminology and the pathogen could have ONLY been a bacteria. They did certain tests on the pathogen (which are only used to identify bacteria) and still called it a virus . When I read this article light bulbs went off in my head and I started laughing. In the article the authors used the word virus hundreds of times....
Thanks the posting the 'Science of Parkinson's' article and perhaps, it was an attempt to get a research grant in the future.
Thank you for posting Mary
