Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are quite different. There is some pretty good evidence PD is caused by environmental insults such as pesticides, and no evidence that I know of that PD is caused by microbes. OTOH there is evidence that Alzheimer's is caused by pathogens in the brain, and this idea sorely needs attention it has not gotten, as your linked letter attests. Instead, hundreds of millions of $s have gone to waste pursuing the body's response to those pathogens.

That is just my personal feeling that Parkinson's is caused by some kind of an agent that is infectious and spreads. That would be that idiopathic kind not a head injury or pesticides.
