I have been looking for a centre where I can go to a few days to learn quiet meditation really not sure which type but I need to be able to go away and reach calm peaceful state and hopefully this will help achieve this. I live in Auckland but don't mind travelling, would appreciate any suggestions.

While you are waiting try googling Yoga Nidra...great for simple mindful relaxation and useful tool for insomnia. Many, many options. Find a voice that doesn't irritate the heck out of you and look for about 20 minutes to a half an hour to start. Someone must teach Nidra in Auckland, I expect. It is not typical yoga...it is meditation.

Hi, good to know you'd like to learn meditation. It is truly an excellent tool to reconnect with and center yourself.

That said, meditation is really easy, at-least the beginning. All you need is a quiet place for 10-15 minutes and comfortable clothing. Your room, under a tree, on a bench by the lake, in the park, a quiet time in the office.......literally anywhere, anytime. No special posture is needed but it would be good NOT to fall asleep while meditating!

Simply close your eyes and take your attention to the breath going in and out through your nose. Maintain focus there for as long as you can/want. A minute or two down the line you will catch your mind wandering. When you realise this, don't berate yourself, bring the focus back to your breathing and continue. That's it!

10-15 days of the above will prep you for for the next level. At that point look for a professional place, not just yet.

Good luck!

I find meditation very helpful in calming myself down.

The simplest form of meditation I ever learned was to just sit down with the back straight.

Nothing to do. This was attractive to me because I did not want meditation to be just one more thing to do.Check this out. I studied under this man for 2 years, and he is the real thing.

Do meditate. It soothes our ragged nerves ;)
