Myself I suspect it could be something similar for Parkinson's.
"As for why funding agencies and other scientists have been largely unappreciative of the 'bacterial' Alzheimer’s hypothesis, Ehrlich defers to a quote from German physicist Max Planck: 'Science advances one funeral at a time'.”
I liked the whole article, but this paragraph really stood out!
Dr. Lawrence Broxmeyer wrote a book about the historic relationship between the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis and AD. It is an interesting book and I gave it a positive blurb on amazon.com. On the following page I made the posted video (with the updated information from the above science article at the end of it):

The narration in the video is me and this is similar to my Parkinson's documentary (which is almost finished).

Rich, did you ever see Bill Sardis article on tuberculosis? Here it is.
Thanks for the article. I have included paratuberculosis (MAP) in my documentary because of the genetic relationship between Parkinson's and Crohn's -MAP, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae.
MAP & M. leprae:

M. tuberculosis:

The documentary has 2 parts. Part 1 has a major emphasis on therapy and a minor emphasis on causation. Part 2, causation, has a focus on TB, leprosy and Crohn's with additional emphasis on treatment.
I am almost done and will get a needed rest afterwards. When finally posted online I will post it on this site.

Researchers suggest new theory for how Parkinson's disease develops
This is another recent article with a different perspective on PD from the infection theory. Silvestrov i look forward to your comment on it.
In the 2017 article you posted the author (s) made this statement:
"The disease is caused by accumulation of α-synuclein, which overwhelms and destroys nerve cells."
My question is, what causes alpha synuclein to misfold in the first place? Regardless of whether the misfolding occurs in the gut then brain, like Braak's Dual Hit Hypothesis, or body-wide like this article suggests, there is no supporting evidence why the protein misfolding occurs in the first place. Hence, it just happens like magic. With Braak's hypothesis there is a proposed cause 'presumably a virus', and nothing causes alpha synuclein misfolding then PD in this new hypothesis - which it is, A Hypothesis. Scientists float hyopthetical view points then look for supporting information. There are ample examples of pathogens involved in the development of PD, which fulfills Braak's Hypothesis and the new hypothesis lacks concrete examples to support their theory. Plus the new theory does not explain olfactory dysfunction as a early marker of PD like Brask's hypothesis (and gastro intestinal symptoms like constipation).
It is way too early to discard the new theory but the burden of proof needs to be fulfilled. Without evidence, it is just a theory. To use tentative scientific language, the theory is suggestive but more study is required.
Studies like the following support Braak:

PS. Alpha synuclein exist in healthy non-PD individuals but only misfold in PD patients. Why?
