Druidess, I have not heard of sinemet depleting iron, but the b vitamins do reduce the effectiveness of sinemet. Because the b vitamins do clash with sinemet, and they are very important, especially B12 and B1 or thiamine, I take a MegaB tablet every night before going to bed, and my B12 levels remain good. In any case, B12 is so important that the body stores a four year supply, and that is why vegans do not become ill without it (at least for four years). I only take sinemet during the daytime, my last tablet being about 6 p.m. and before bed or about 11 p.m. I take a MegaB tablet.

I also take a multi-vitamin/mineral tablet after breakfast that contains iron and many other things. I add 2 teaspoons of bee pollen and half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to my breakfast, and have 2 curcumin capsules and two olive leaf extract capsules and one co-enzyme Q10 capsule twice a day as well. I see no reason to worry at all about iron, just take a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement that contains iron. I do believe that by supplementing my sinemet with curcumin, everything remains under control, and I can remain on the same dosage of sinemet for a longer period of time than otherwise.

My husband who has PD is taking MegaB vitamins but he also takes Sinemet 100/25 3 times a day plus a controlled release at night (otherwise he can't turn over in bed). I wonder when is the best time for him to take the B vit?

He also takes many other supplements but doesn't like to as he is pill adverse! Consequently he isn't presently taking the organic turmeric with bioperine I bought for him. I used to put this, cinnamon and magnesium in a smoothie every day but he wasn't keen on that either! It's very hard to get him to eat anything during the day as he has no appetite. This makes taking certain supplements difficult as many of them need to be taken with food!

You say that by supplementing your Sinemet with curcumin that everything remains under control.......how so I wonder?

Glenandgerry, the organic turmeric with bioperine would be great. The sinemet I take is the controlled release 200/50. It is very smooth, but sometimes I lose track of the time and am a little late with the next tablet. Since taking the curcumin as well, the timing is not so critical, whereas before, my tremor would start to return. I am not sure how it works, but it seems to help. Also, I have managed to remain on the same dosage for a couple of years now, without having to increase it, or reduce the time. I have one tablet at 6 a.m. 10 a.m. 2p.m. and 6 p.m. and only sometimes one about 10 p.m. I have cinnamon powder with my breakfast only. I mix two teaspoons of bee pollen with half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder, then add 3 Weetbix and milk to the bowl, and go and do something else while the milk is soaking in. The UK Weetabix is a similar product. It is a high nutrient breakfast. The bee pollen and cinnamon could be added to any cereal or porridge, such as oatmeal or whatever.
