digestion

I know I have posted this some time before but I am having a really bad time with burning in my throat and constipation. My neuro suggested prilosap for digestion but nothing for constipation. These are my two main problems. Can anyone help.

Thank you.

We end up constipated because PD dries out the GI tract from one end to the other. To get moisture back in at the lower end I use docusate, an over-the-counter stool softener, 250 mg 3x/day. This is about 3 times the suggested maximum dose, but I have had no adverse effects. At times when even that has not been enough I have added polyethylene glycol powder, which goes under the brand name ClearLax.

I also have trouble with dry mouth, which if left untreated causes a sore tongue. For this I take Cevimeline, a prescription drug that increases the flow of saliva. Zand Orange C lozenges also help.

A friend of mine suggested 2 c of freshly made celery juice.

If you are into juicing, this may be a good way to go (no pun intended)

I am trying it for a weeek to see what happens.

Besides, celery is very good for us

Are you drinking enough water? Try for 8 x 8oz every day (about half gallon/ 2 litres).

This was my first thought too. Most of us are apparently suffering from chronic dehydration and simply drinking enough pure water can help your body cure almost every ill. I'd recommend either reading Dr Batmanghelidj's books - "Your Body's Many Cries For Water" and "You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty", or listening to him in a number of videos - here's a link to one -

Magnesium! Magnesium and an over-the-counter stool softener.

Hi Beckey. Which kind of magnesium do you suggest? There are so many kinds in so many different forms, that it can be very confusing when it comes to choosing! Could you recommend a specific form or type of magnesium?

I have terrible constipation and take magnesium citrate capsules. I also take 2 tea spoon of psyllium -no sugar- in 1\2 glass water twice a day and plus also alternate 2 capsules of Dulcox stool softerner or MiraLax in water at bed time. Try to take 6-8 glass of water and still difficult BM

I had a burning throat and difficult bm's for years before I was diagnosed. I would also choke on my food regularly. I used prilosec for a while but didn't like it. I have been using about half a spoonful of psyllium husk a day for the past six months and the throat burning and choking are gone. One annoying side effect is some extra gas but it's worth it for me. This is the brand I bought: amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0016AXN...

Both your symptoms can be caused by infection with the bacteria helicobacter pylori which is now being looked at as a cause of Parkinson's. perhaps you could ask to be tested, or do a stool test kit which you post off for analysis. Extracts from broccoli can be used to treat it as an alternative to antibiotics.

There are concerns about Prilosec and Parkinsons. You can google it and talk to your doctor and pharmacist.

Thank you everyone for your replies. My neuro suggested prilosac which didnt want to take. I tried Mago7 and it worked the next day, The Vitamin Shoppe suggested DGL (deglycyrrhizinated Licorice) for the acid in my throat. Took 2 on my home plus 1 or two more the next day and the acid in my throat has completely gone. Licorice is stomach soothing and cheap on sale at the shop for $7.

Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas
