This morning I could only walk 5 min.
Last night I decided I was going to do some weedwhacking before it
got too hot (99 F)
I just did that for 1/2 h!!
So there are other things we can do even if we can't walk far
Any thoughts?
Love, Eva G.

My thought...Something is better than nothing. Do not be a coach potato.
If i feel bad i just go out side and set in the shade and drink ice tea. Even when it is 100 the shade and a little breeze fills better than the ac to me.
The sun does wonders it charges my batteries.
I think doing things in the house for exercise is a lot better idea than being out in the heat. I've been trying to keep the house cleaner than I have been and that takes a lot of moving around.
All I could do in 99-degree heat is doze in a hammock, I'm afraid. My walking is very slow-mo these days but I, too, enjoy weeding and other robust gardening!
Its the sustained repetition of walking with PD I think - think the five finger test. Once over the hurdle of getting started with something interesting on the radio over my headphones I can plod on in the garden for a couple of hours
I meant don't be a "couch" potato. ha!
I tried to do more around the house too. I think of anything that I do when I'm not just sitting counts as exercise
I bought a stationary recumbent bike because with PD and a cervical fusion my gait is way to off I try and ride while watching movies in the ac...Good luck to you
I was under the impression that any exercise is good. Your question is one I have wondered about, though. Pushing the mower, sweeping out the garage, swimming, working on the car, etc. They all give muscles a workout. Looking forward to the replies from the more experienced ones than myself.
I love fit bit. It counts all activity and is encouraging to see how much we have moved through out the day.
I read in regards to PD that puttering is very good for us. Just doing something. This is such a crazy disease! I found that if I am walking in town and looking down the long boring block it's almost more than I can bear and it's hard to keep going. And I notice each step, especially if my meds are not working at max. But if I go out in the country on one of my hikes I can walk and walk, with lots of resting times if it is steep, of course. There is something distracting and different around every corner I turn. I also can still work in the garden for a heck of a lot longer than I can walk around town.
Eva, I hope you are feeling better, I just ran across your post. I have a fondness for researching clinical trials as I am new to PD. There is one that I suspect may be of interest to you and that is Nilotnib - have you heard about it? They have only done one small safety study at Georgetown but the results documented were fairly amazing so it has received a lot of attention. Another interesting fact about this medication is it is already FDA approved as it is currently used in cancer treatment. However, much lower doses would only be needed for Parkinson's. They are planning to release multiple trials across the country early in 2017. There is information about this on the Michael J Fox website and I have shared in previous posts. Maybe this offers some good news? Wishing you the very best.
99F would finish me off! Retired to Spain for many years before PD diagnosed and started to suffer with the extreme heat in the summer. Too hot to DO anything but lol around all day .After diagnosed decided to spend summer back in UK . Now able to cycle ,play tennis ,walk , workout all year round. Think it has definitely slowed PD progression. So fortunate to be able to do this.
After 4 1/2 yrs still on Mirapexin and Azelect sure would be on Levodopa if I'd stayed in the heat.
