Cshamb,
Yes i have a terrible time with acid reflux. Especially when I Have A Dysotnia attack or Dystonic storm and have to take extra meds. Which then usually triggers the avid reflux and throwing up even at times. I try and remember to chew up 2 peppermint flavored TUMS and this greatly reduces the acidity and the peppermint flavor is settling to my stomach. just make sure to check with your Dr or pharmacist for any conflicts with taking your meds and antacid together. just sucking on peppermint candy will help acidity in your body if you don't have TUMS or ROLAIDS. My Dr. also suggested a medication such as prilisect or something to that effect but I didn't feel it was necessary and I already have so many pills that i have to take i just didn't want to add another unless absolutely necessary and the TUMS really seems to help.
hope this helps you.
I have acid reflux too.
I think almost everyone who has PD has some digestive issues. Here's a copy of a reply I made on a previous thread. (That thread is entitled, "GERD and how to cope with it" and it has a lot of responses. You might want to search for and read it.)
The three things that helped me most were: 1) Leaving at least 2 or 3 hours between the last meal/snack and going to bed. 2) Chewing each bite of food very, very well. 3) Not eating animal protein (meat, fish, milk products, eggs) and starchy foods/sugar (like potatoes, bread, pasta, desserts) in the same meal. There is some research on the internet that indicates these two groups of food need very different environments in the stomach to completely digest, and eating them together will cause one group to just sit in your stomach and not digest well. The theory is also controversial, but I tried it and it proved to work for me so I continue it.
Very common. Reduced motility is a problem with PD. I have written on this elsewhere on this site so hopefully you can bring it up

Hi, I have had acid reflux for a very long time now and until I was diagnosed with Parkinsons which was only within the last 9 months, I had no idea it was part of the disease. When last I saw my neurologist, he cancelled out the Siffrol I was taking and wanted to put me on Sinemet, which I haven't taken as I was rather concerned re the side-effects, so unfortunately I can't say whether that particular medicine is partly responsible for the acid reflux or the Parkinson's itself. I believe "Heartsong'' hit the nail on the head when she mentioned PD and digestive issues go hand in hand. All-in-all as much as you don't like to see or hear of pain and suffering, it is nice to know there is a community with genuine health issues where they can be discussed openly without being labelled a whinger by those that do not have similar complaints.
I must ask how you rate Sinemet, and have you noticed any side-effects such as odema, weight loss or gain and any new moles or pigmentation occurring. Thank you. I hope we all manage to keep as agile and alert as possible.
