some of the ?'s and answers about the medications and what they do and how you feel. My Mom has always been into Healthy. She had health problems years ago and sees a nutrionalist regularly. She's knows of my problems and the medications. I was born with a stomach ache, I've always had stomach problems . Her nutrionalist has told her that some meds take the Flora out of the stomach, if you don't have that then the food and meds do not digest they ferment. I'm wondering if this is part of my problem. If the meds ferment , my body is not benefitting fully from the medication, therefore I'm not functioning at top level. There are days I feel my meds are just not working. So, is this a possibility, If I get my stomach healthy will the meds be better absorbed therefore working better for me? Please let me know your thoughts. Feedback, Feedback!!!

Please let me know too. I experience the same and I think it has something to do with PD. ~~ Dennis

I was told I had Barrett's esophagus (a condition in which some of the cells in your esophagus change in response to long-term exposure to stomach acid) and Dyspepsia just after being told I had PD.

It certainly coundn't hurt to take acidiphyllus tablets. One tablet has the probiotics in 10 cups of yogurt. I always take it when I take antibiotics to help stay a bit more normal and avoid a superinfection from all the good flora killed by the drugs. It is quite inexpensive and if you have a membership at Sam's Club it is very cost effective. Eating yogurt with active cultures is also good. Read the labels since not all yougurt has active cultures.

i too take acidophylus tablets for constipation and they def work - but i too believe that the meds are not working on me because i have a gut that does not absorb meds - hence my neuro has given me disolvable modopar -- still an not that brilliant though - i.e cannot walk unaided and cannot do much else fior myself come to that !!

Hi Grapper,

Antibiotics in particular are know to kill beneficial flora in our digestive system. I, however, have not heard anything like this about most PD meds. If you have concerns and/or digestive distress, I too would recommed the active cultures

(and more) mentioned above. They are harmless ways for most people to reintroduce healthy flora into the digestive tract.

Some additonal sources of beneficial flora woud include: Fermented dairy products" i.e. yogurt (fresh not frozen!), kefir, lassi, fermented soy products such as miso, tempeh, shoyu, tamari, and natto, and fermented cabbage (and some additional vegies such as sauerkraut, kim chi, etc.

Best wishes,

Steve (Bisbee, AZ)

I have 'visceral off' so have to take sinemet to make gut work. Which it doesn't always do, causing longer offs. But when I'm on, I have to run (to pee) sometimes.

Suffer from a mysterious abdominal pain that's related to what I eat and aggravated by PD. I asked my neuro if there was a specialist in PD and GI and he said no.

Thank you for responding to my question. I'm just want to feel better. I guess I'm looking for the feelgoodcureall pill. I am working with a nutrionalist to help calm the stomach issue. So far changing a few eating habits and trying to Detox (naturally) getting all the toxins out.

In the absence of a cure medication is all we have.side effects are not an optional extra, they go with the terriitory

.We can help ourselves at a very basic level

Most of us dont drink enough water, and it is. pretty essential to your bodies transport system helps digestion and prevents constipation

.Dairy products can reduce the bio avalabiity of medication by as much as 30%l

.Dairy products can produce thicker excessive mucous, then you get an increase in stomach acid as digestion battles against the odds fails and you might get acid reflux and throw up.

,The 1/2 hour and 1 hour rule.take meds 1/2 hour before food and wait minumum of an hour after food,

other options well pills for costipation pills to supress acid production.Pills dont fix things they just help you live with a problem.

Also be aware of generic differences.

The relative bioavailability of the generic

medicine can lie anywhere between 80%

and 125% of the original medicine’s values.

It can result in overdose or under dose

changes in formulation type can affect your

symptom control

One more important thing, thats much overlooked is funtional problems prior to menstruation, meds for some women just dont seem to work well or at all as many as five days can be wiped out of your life each month. Some research shows that acetazolomide 125mg daily benefits, worked for me for several years and now I dont seem to need it.Im waiting for its friend the menopause to knock on my door, the next hiccup along the way

Hey there, I'm so with you on the hormonal thing. I have been in perimenopause since I was 34. Hypothyroid problems also run rampant with the women on my moms side of the family. I've always been borderline. My hormones get wacky every couple of months which doesn't help the PD symptoms. Oh well --Charge on I say.
