typing
for many the answer is S L O W L Y !
I use a stylus on an Ipad. It goes pretty fast, but I do get a little hand cramp now and then.
I sometimes copy and paste quite big chunks of text from somewhere. This might make me look as hough I can type fast.

I try to type at normal speed and do a lot of editing. When I am tired this is more complicated if my double vision sets in. I hope that everyone understands!
From my part, this community is worth the effort
I was dx with pd in 2012 and this year I asked my work to instal read write gold on my desk top at work (I saw it being demo at a recent tech fare ) it acts like predictive text on a phone ie one key stroke for the word - I've only been using it for a short while but so far so good
I type with the index finger on right hand. Usually by the time I'm finished my hand has locked momentarily.
My husband use a Tracker ball mouse and cusses a lot
I can type pretty well in the a.m. BEFORE my meds are on. My husband also just bought me Dragon Naturally Speaking which is a speech recognition program. Seems pretty easy to use........
My hand problems were one of the first symptoms but have definitely improved. My first solution around 2001 was to use two mouses (mice?) and to switch back and forth all day between the left and the right. It was not easy to learn but I became equally proficient. By 2006 this was not enough and I started looking to reduce my hours as I'm a computer programmer. After being diagnosed with PD in 2007? have graduated to Mirapex, stalevo, and azilect. Not sure what helped my hands (maybe all three) but I did meet a patient who was on the original azilect trial who got relieve for his hands with the azilect alone.
I probably type about as fast as I ever have now for the last 15 years but can't say how I do before the meds kick-in since I can hardly walk at that time.
so were you unable to totally type at any point and can you type without meds, as my wrists are flexed like i got rods in them, is it normal in PD, please reply
I believe that things have recently improved for my hands. I would say that I definitely was too stiff (and fatigued) to type with all fingers without meds. The two main changes I can think of that I've made are 1) Weight lifting six days a week. 2) Extra-virgin olive oil for inflammation. I know of longterm joint problems (one in my shoulder specifically that disappeared in the last few months) which I attribute to the same. If you decide to use the olive oil I can give you some information I learned on how to get the right oil.
please give any information you can to help me thanks especially for fingers
As I said Extra Virgin Olive oil several times a day. I love the stuff (others don't like the taste). I suggested getting some bread from Carabbas and dipping it in the oil (add some ground pepper too).
Buy only California brands of Extra Virgin. Buy smallest bottles you can find since it loses its potentcy after a few weeks. Also keep in cool unlit areas ( but not in refrigeration). Look for Harvest date of Nov 2013 or newer. Most of it will be Nov 2012 which is a year older (not good).
Have you read about the use of coconut oil? A family member is trying it ( eating 2 tablespoons a day ) and seeing an improvement in most functions. Read about it CoconutOil.com for info. Worth a try, i think!
