i kept falling or passing out and nausea with it. so the neurologist sent me for many tests ,and that' when he put me on the carb-levo dopa. and i have been pretty good since then. just walk funny at times, like a drunk. ant my writing is horrible. i have to concentrate on each letter, or it gets unreadable

Judi,

Welcome back. I wonder what the drug causing your severe reaction was? My initial experience was similar as my consultant asked us (my husband & I) to join a trial immediately in which I was randomly allocated one of four popular drugs prescribed on diagnosis. The med causing the problems ten years ago was Sinemet on which I now rely. I know we all hate it when people tell us that as individuals trial & error is the only way forward:it is none the less true.

What you describe is typical of Parkinson's. Do you get to meet other people with Parkinson's?

what bothered me after the trouble i had with the first med. he kept increasing the dosage. then was switched to the carb leva -dopa, and it hasn't been increased, but i still feel pretty good. i don't shake much, only when i lean my arm on the table. so i don't do that.

Dear Judam12,

I am 66 and have been on carbidopa/levadopa (sinemet) for at least 10 years and still have the same symptoms of falling, writing horribly, and have extreme tension in parts of my body including my face which causes difficulty in speaking. but it remains the best drug available for fighting or relieving PD symptoms. it's just the way it is.

for me too, it is the best. my neuro , prescribed something new . i tried it for a few days, and stopped. told him i couldn't take it, and he showed me the waste basket. that's fine, but that stuff is usually pretty expensive.

I am sure this is 'telling grandma how to suck eggs' but for people new to the site it might be worth me saying that some of the symptoms you have described can also be attributed to Parkinson's itself rather than the medication. Some meds take a bit of getting used to and could be introduced gradually to help with that or anti nausea pills added for a few weeks to help overcome the hump.

The dosages of all meds will have to be increased over time because the condition is one which develops with time.

Hope you all find something to suit and to restore you to an acceptable lifestyle soon.

I started with Mirapex only, then was put on carbidopa/levodopa and my symptoms are minimal. I am very thankful.
