Do most insurance companies cover a power lift recliner if ordered by a Dr. ?

Just wondering if this is something they would normally cover or only things like Hospital beds and wheelchairs. Most equipment we own we have bought ourselves without trying through insurance.

While it is noble to want a power lift chair to help it is much better to have the person lift themselves up the more that is done for them the less they able to do for themselves. I know medicare will buy or chip in on a walker rollator(Wheeled walker) for 200 or depending on your ins. they pay 80% you pay 20 % of the cost.

I tend to agree with your thought about doing for themselves, I also think if it takes a lot of energy to get out of a chair, a person might just stay in it all day and move less. Also if there is a fall risk when trying to get out of a chair, then get a lift chair or a portable lift seat, they can me motorized or spring operated. We Had a motorized one for the kitchen chair, the extra height of the seat helped as much as the lift mechanism. That makes me think of the bathroom stool risers and the arm rests/grab bars that go along with them. I wounder if something like that is available for a living room chair?

If your insurance doesn't pay for it you may still be able to take a tax deduction !

On a lift chair medicare will pay for the motor only, and only with a doctor script. I have found that it is less expensive to purchase items ourselves, than going through a medical supply place. Some communities have a medical recycle center where you can barrow (for as long as you want/need. They also get new items with grant money that you may put in a request for. When my hubby had a stroke, we borrowed, a wheel chair and a portable chair lift seat. When he had to have surgery on his foot after the stroke, we borrowed a knee walked, and several other items. We both have sleep apnea and purchase supplies from the internet. It is less than our co-pays.

We like you have bought all but the hospital bed, Medicare would not buy it outright, they would only do rental and we had to pay out each month, I think after the eighteen months of our doing this and still needing it, it was declare d being paid for in full. That is the only help we got through Medicare. I had given thought to a power lift chair but someone mentioned to me that a recliner that rocked forward might be better, good luck in your decision, looks like there are many to choose from.
