I have recently been eating a lot of salt... - Cure Parkinson's
I have recently been eating a lot of salted meat also recently my medication has gone haywire, is there a connection?
Hello anthonyjohnrobinson
There's every chance of there being a connection. Salted meat is a protein which stays in your stomach, digesting, a long time. I have been told and it is my experience that protein foods interfere with the absorption of medications and to take my medication at least 30 minutes before eating protein foods and not to take anymore medication until 2 hours after eating the same. I would go so far as to say put even more distance between eating protein and taking your medication than these times if possible. Do you mind if I ask you if your blood pressure is high and has your sleep worsened since introducing salted meat into your diet? Again, it is my experience that meat/fish/cheese and the like make one more alert and can interfere with sleep!

Thank you for the reply. I am not sure if my blood pressure, which is usually low rather than high, is high but my sleep is certainly affected. I have been taking my medication with food, including some meals of salt meat, it is possible that I should review both my eating and medication habits. I am sure that a more vegetable based diet will help. Thanks again,
Hello again Anthony
Best get your blood pressure checked to be sure. You are wise to review your diet, introducing more vegetables. I personally found that my sleep improved when I made my last meal of the day, basically a starch one such as brown rice. Starch is more calming to the brain helping to increase serotonin levels. You may like to try this for several weeks.
Remember Anthony, that you can eat too much protein.

Salt may be very good at preserving meat, and in the olden days much was used, but the salt was mostly washed out by soaking in copious amounts of fresh water before cooking. I don't know if you are eating canned salt meat but if so I'd recommend you stopped or cut down. Salt really is no good for the human body in such amounts. and can be dangerous. If possible eat more fruit and vegetables, and fish is good. Make sure you eat oily fish also i.e. Salmon/ Mackerel/Sardines at least once or twice weekly.
A good bowl of oatmeal porridge in a morning is very beneficial to the diet I add oatbran after cooking.
keeps up your energy levels, and helps keep your Blood pressure and bad cholesterol down.
what kind of medicines for what condition? Proteins compete for absorption with carbidopa/levidopa in PD. I had been painfree from IBS for over a month until I ate 7 pieces of bacon.
anthonyjohnrobinson: Obsolutely there is. If you mean lunch meat, hot dogs, ham, bacon etc, most of it contains nitrates. I can count on not walking for hours if I eat anything with nitrates in it. And if you are on azilect, it's one of the food groups to avoid.
