Hello Maidar,
Firstly, capsules are the most expensive way of consuming coconut oil
Secondly the largest softgel capsules contains 1 gram of oil. The general recommended dosage for healthy people is 1-3 tablespoons per day. This means you would have to take 42 capsules a day. If you have serious diseases like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, most battle plans call for 6-8 tablespoons per day, well you can do the math.
Your post doesn't mention why you're taking coconut oil, but I would say the reason you're not seeing any results is that you're not taking enough.
Thank you for your response!
I am taking 2 (1000mg) capsules after 3 meals They are 25 calories each!
I chew them up,
I have Dystonia and Parkinsonism! but can't seem to use the oil! I tried it to fry annd spread o toast and it started a gag reflex!
Any suggestions?
Yes, I'm sorry to hear you have so much trouble consuming coconut oil. I don't have any problem and eat it straight out of the jar, so I didn't have to invent ways of consuming it. My neighbor has a similar problem with not being able to tolerate the taste, so my wife made up a batch of chocolate fudge and now she's eating it:
Yield: 16 ounces
1 cup coconut oil
1 cup chocolate chips or 8 ounces 70 to 80 % dark chocolate (use low sugar chocolate to keep calories down)
Melt and mix thoroughly. Divide into a 16-cube tray (each cube will equal one tablespoon of coconut oil) Chill until set.
Variation: add about 1/4 cup grated coconut oil and/or nut pieces
I couldn't use the coconut oil either because of the taste. Someone sad that they put it in their hot tea in the microwave. I don't drink tea, so I put it in a cup and add some hot water to it to melt it and then add some apple juice. You can hardly taste it. I've been taking 2 Tbs for about 3 weeks and have noticed a slight improvement in my pain. I plan to work up to 6 Tbs a day.
slowly, because I've heard that it can cause some stomach discomfort. Good luck.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can get enough by taking the capsules. but it is the only way to take it that is tolerable The stuff is really VILE. It also has calories and by taking six to 8 tablespoons a day, you are adding about 1,000 calories a day. I am going to try taking four capsules a day to see if there is any benefit, but I am not going to add all those calories that I'd get from taking 6 to 8 tablespoons a day. I think the whole thing is probably a crazy fad which will pass.
Good luck ldq1997,
I hope you find some benefits. I started at a low dosage also. Coconut oil will speed up your metabolism, so you may have more room to increase your dosage than you think, but I understand that you must be very careful to avoid gaining weight.
Keep a look-out for improvement in mood, eyesight, clear-headedness, improved modulation of blood sugar. These are some early benefits that many have found by adding coconut oil to their diet. Something is better than nothing.
I started taking it after watching the CBS Sunday news piece on Dr Mary Newport's use of coconut oil for her husbands Alzheimers. I started reading her book "What if theres a Cure". I was having serious (and scary) memory problems, but it's been a miracle for me. My staff noticed right away. I recommend it for my patients.
I will try adding a tablespoon to my regime. Now it's summer, it's always liquid. In winter it's solid and hard to take. The package does not say refrigerate after opening. Hope it's true. I take a tbs of flaxseed oil with breakfast and a tbs of EV olive oil with dinner.

Unfortunately, the Searches on this site miss a lot of material, so finding earlier posts is problematic. The best strategy that I have found is to search a members name, which brings up a lot of stuff, but at least it is germane.
I have been doing some research to find out if there is any way of getting coconut oil which does not have that sickening (to me) sweetish coconut taste. It spoils anything you might use the coconut oil with. I learned from the internet that refined coconut oil does not have that awful taste. You can cook with it and no one would know the food had been cooked in coconut oil. You have to be sure to get expeller pressed coconut oil rather than chemically extracted coconut oil, however. Insofar as I can find, there is not very much difference in the health benefits of virgin coconut oil and refined coconut oil. The virgin coconut oil is unrefined and that is why it retains the taste whereas refined coconut oil is tasteless. On the Paleo Diet website,
they recommend Spectrum as a good brand of refined coconut oil. I have not tried it yet, but will get some as soon as possible.
Another coconut oil product is to try Fuel for Thought, currently being used in Alzheimer's trials. Seems to be a mixture of MCT oil and coconut oil. Advertises as lower calories and better tasting than straight coconut oil. Also very convenient for travel.
But still have to introduce to your body slowly, to avoid stomach/intestinal upset.
This product is also more pricey than just buying virgin coconut oil. Haven't tried myself because I can readily take coconut oil straight from the jar.
Guys, please take a look at this video about Mannitol doing amazing things for Parkinson's patients ...the taste of Mannitol ....is like sugar , so you will not have any problem with the taste . This is based on real research.
