Hi Al,

I have to force myself to eat as I hate pre-made parcels of food. I find most days I am dizzy and nauseous, and then my medications bloats and binds me. I do take Movicol, which gives me incredibly painful cramps and that day I can do little else. My waist will then drop from 36” to 32”, and the cycle starts again.

Al, if you have any solutions could you kindly share this with me, please? I miss the pleasure of suppers with others. I receive invitations from New College to sit at the High Table. I graciously decline as I hold the 700-year traditions of my Alma Mater with the deepest of respect, as my dining etiquette is now unbecoming of such an honour.

Hi Gary,

dont have any answer to this one mate, i to have lost shed loags of weight , like yourself i have gone from 36 waist to 32, last time i was 32 waist was over 35 years ago, as for felling dizzy and nauseous, they are now part of my daily life pattern, i just put up with it and some times have a few beer's , please dont let your dinning habit stop you from enjoying yourself , I dont , we get a good old laugh at me some times. when i go out to eat , whoever we are with i give a short explanation about PD and that does the trick , for me anyway.

If there is anything i can help you with i will do my best, As i live in Glasgow its quite funny to see peoples reactions when you spill your soup, drop some food of a fork and dribble when drinking , its a case of improvise and adapt to each and every situation you are in

Regards

Al

I have no trouble eating. My med has made me a compulsive eater and I have gained 50 lbs. I eat through the nausea.

Hi,

Every time i eat i want to chuk up , i only nibble at food , soup's are good and i just about live on them.

Before my meds were changed I had a lot of eating issues.

Until last month I would go thru a phase where I seemed to never be hungry (I would forget to eat some days) to a phase where I could eat, but if eating out would always have a take home box.

Unfortunately I am currently in a phase of being hungry ALL the time...am not liking this phase!

Hi Sass,

I have had problems with nausea for at least 8 -12 months out of the year for the last 6 1/2 years since my diagnosis. When first diagnosed I read and was told by my neurologist that i should allow 30 - 60 minutes between taking my PD meds and eating or twice that long after eating. For the first several years I would invariably feel quite sick before getting to eat. I am not a heavy person (5'11'' 160lbs) but I've long had a "black belt" in eating! I love to cook, too. My body wasn't tolerating much of that either. I was simply in too much pain!

I also hate taking meds and wanted to find a natural alternative to anti-nausea medication. The closest i came to this was in eating a few bland whole grain crackers just before or with my meds, something my new neurologist had suggested - saying that I should disregard the time frames above as long as it was not any high protein food I was intaking with my meds.

I do not know if the same would be true with all prescriptions, but you might check this out with your doctor, and see if it helps.

Best wishes,

Steve (Bisbee, AZ)

Thank you for the compliment . How did you get my web site? Keirdesigns.webstarts.com@index.html is the website devoted to raising funds for Parkinson research. If you read the info on it, then you know that this unique art is a direct result of the tremor in my left

I just figured it out. Tapping on my portrait brings up a page that gives my web site for this Art for Parkinson Diease Research

I, too, have nausea, and quite often retch especially while brushing my teeth. I notice this after taking my Stalevo. It has not stopped me eating unfortunately and I find myself picking rather than eating a meal. Consequently, the weight is increasing and I cannot shift it even with exercise. I find that eating a dry biscuit after my Stalevo can help. I am quick to blame meds for weight problem, but wonder if I am right.

When I was on dopamine agonists, I felt as you do. Behaving in this way in front of neurologist, i was taken off and put on sinemet. Crystal ginger most effective for nausea for me. Good luck! (p.s. my daughter brought me from Movicol from UK. Very effective but so much sodium that my knees blow up:(!
