Arava side affects?

Hello, I was reading some posts and had a question. I have active bowel disease UC and undifferentiated connective tissue disease as well as either inflammatory arthritis or symptoms from the above. I was in imuran for a few years and it helped with joint and tendon swelling until I was hospitalized with pancreatitis and they discontinued. Then went to mtx injections and my bowels and stomachs did not tolerate that well so they stopped that. I just started Arava this week from my rhumi for joint pain and I have a terrible sore throat in my right side. Does anyone else have sore throats from this or will it go away? I am so tired of feeling sick and in pain.

I have never had a sore throat with taking ARAVA.

I didn’t have a sore throat with Arava, but I had severe mouth pain and blistering. One of the solutions offered was I was prescribed high dose folic acid, but it didn’t really help. So after a few months of being on it, I was taken off. I also had another side effect; my blood pressure went up. I hope you feel better. I know Arava has worked for some people so give it time. Sometimes, initial side effects disappear quickly.

I did have sore throat. I took folate for it. Also pineapple juice and papaya for the enzymes. I took methylfolate which you can buy on Amazon.com. it is better than folic acid. This happened when I was taking methotrexate. I did not have these symptoms while taking arava. Make sure not to drink any alcohol as it will be harder on your liver. I also take orencia intravenous once a month and the supplements of devils CLAW and boswella for pain everyday. A flexeril every night. Good luck
