Hello fatigue. Anemia? I think I've become anemic. I know that RA causes anemia and that maybe my nearly vegan diet could be contributing...plus methotrexate. I'm eating a lot of spinach with citrus to help absorption and I will probably get some salmon to have here and there. I need to get tested for my iron levels. Maybe I should get a supplement? Do others have ideas about the best way to deal with this?

Hello fatigue. Anemia?
Just an update: looks like the spinach and grapefruit may have worked to bring up my iron (assuming that was what caused my fatigue and that it wasn't just the passage of time from my mtx doses... I will figure it out this Coming week.
If this helps at all, drjpmg, (which you may already be well aware of βΊοΈ ) those of us with autoimmune disease(s)/ RA commonly suffer from Anemia of Chronic Disease ( medlineplus.gov/ency/articl... ) (as well as meds contributing to fatigue/ exhaustion):
Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells provide oxygen to body tissues. There are many types of anemia.
Anemia of chronic disease (ACD) is anemia that is found in people with certain long-term (chronic) medical conditions that involve inflammation.

Personally, I suspect, beginning significant dietary/ lifestyle changes jumpstarted the process of turning things 'round for me:
π Physician-prescribed, high-dose Vit D (hormone) supplement
π B12 supplement
π₯ A nutrient-dense diet as well as lifestyle changes (& other 'bridging' nutrients/ supplements & lots of adjustments/ tweaks along the way).
.
[Aside: I'd suffered long-time, long-term debilitating fatigue/ exhaustion π΄ , brain fog π€€ , as well as the typical innumerable, debilitating/ crippling 'bodily ravages' & pain π΅ of RA/ autoimmune disease. π ]

Can't say the same/ identical changes will do likewise for you, drjpmg, but may be worth investigating π΅οΈββοΈ .

And, of course (per usual): If you choose to implement any tips/ techniques, work hand-in-hand π€ with your physicians, rheumatologist, medical team π©ββοΈ π¨ββοΈ . . . to ensure what you are considering π€ is 'safe' for you & doesn't conflict with any of your current meds π π or your specific conditions(s) π€ π΅ π« π΄ π€’ π€ π€§ π π€€ .
