Hi, asking this on behalf of my Mum who has Crohn's and is taking Azathioprine for it. Has anyone taken CBD Oil that is on Azathioprine, I have been telling her about it as she is in constant pain with her back and I keep reading great things about it. She has Osteoporosis and has had wedge fractures in her spine and has had a injection at her sacroiliac which did not help at all. I know the chemist is reluctant to even give her a cough medicine because of Azathioprine. She was at the IBD nurse a couple of weeks ago and I persuaded her to ask about it there but the nurse was unable to advise as it has not been tested.
Azathioprine and CBD Oil: Hi, asking... - Crohn's and Colit...
Azathioprine and CBD Oil
Hello, I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2000 when I was 20. I It took them 5 years to finally diagnose it. I suffered for many years with severe abdominal pain as well as fistulas and abcesses. I ended up having bowel resection surgery to remove pieces of both the small and large intestines in 2008. During that time I was on 125 mills of azathioprine which I first started taking in 2000 and took until 2019. I have had a prescription for medical marijuana During that time as well and can definitely say it helped with many of my Crohn's symptoms. I had no issues with medicinal marijuana and azathioprine at all. I've had strains with high THC for pain and loss of appetite and my medical marijuana doctor recommends a strain with CBD in it to also help with Crohn's. I now prefer the oils that you take orally. I would suggest starting off with a CBD oil with at least 4 mills and little to no THC. THC is what gives you a high feeling so you mom may not want that. I am a firm believer that I have been able to manage my Crohn's well since my surgery in 2008 because of medicinal cannabis/oil. Good luck to your mom.
