Articles like these are misleading and encourage people to ditch meds and use diets to control disease. Diet can help greatly but cannot heal or treat IBD alone. The authors are not medically trained, and to advise people not to take medications is utterly irresponsible

Excerpt from SCD webpage!

'' Incredibly, these small-but-powerful changes won't be "worth the effort" for the majority of people who read this.

They'd rather wait for a "magic pill" medical cure that will never come.

Either they don't believe such a simple, straight-forward approach can succeed where modern medicine has failed - or they just aren't willing to lift a finger to save their own life.

What a shame.

The fun these people are missing and the consequences of their "magic pill" mindset is literally robbing them of the life they desire.

I didn't think so.

Don't let your digestive disease steal one more moment of your life

Start feeling better the safe, drug free way Now! ''

These men make money out of the poor individuals who believe this tripe, and worse still, risk their health by making their IBD worse.

Sorry for the rant but it makes me so cross. Please follow advise from your gastroenterologist and dietitian.

Hi Willow, I’m open minded when it comes to anything to help IBD or any other illness anyone may have. I constantly search for ways that may help myself and possibly others. I think we all need hope and should keep our options open. I would never tell anyone to ditch medications in place of any other kind but at the same time I wouldn’t knock them for trying other things if they chose too. I believe one day someone somewhere will find the missing piece of the jigsaw that will solve all these autoimmune diseases.i had a discussion with my doctor this morning about something I’d like to try which is used a lot in America. She did say she can’t ssy take it because it hasn’t been tested in the uk but said to talk to my gastro team because they may know people who it has helped and can give me some positive feed back on it. I found it refreshing that she was open minded and didn’t just say No No No conventional medicine only!!! It’s a very personal choice and I’m greatful I am able to research and make my own choices.sometimes I may get it wrong but sometimes I might just get it right!! 😁

Im not saying its just meds we have to rely on but to be mindful of such articles whereby the authors/sellers of products say that meds are not needed.

what is you you wish to try? Im open to try anything as long as its safe x

I’ve been talking to a lot of people in America with IBD and a lot of them use cbd oil as part of their treatment plan.i have very bad inflammation in my mouth now and the dentist wants me think about having most of my top teeth removed as treatment for my gums is not helping so he thinks it’s crohns related. I’d rather not unless there’s no other choice!! I’m going to try the cbd oil after having spoken to many who use it and up to now have had no negative feed back so I know it’s not a cure but it could help. It’s not illegal and until I try it I don’t know if it will work.

Thats really funny as Ive been looking into it as Im finding pain control a real issue. It is much more acceptable in the states. Holland and Barrett do a CBD oil but I think its a weak one

If you look on Instagram for the herb kingdom they’ve just started selling it. A young man called Alex runs the business with his dad. Alex has Crohn’s and controls his pain etc with the oil. It works for him. You can talk to him st greT length if you message him. He will explain and answer any of your questions. I should get my oil today. I ordered the small one 10mls. I tried Holland and Barrett’s and it upset my stomach. But as you know we’re all different and respond to things in different ways!! You have to be careful too because you could be buying anything. I don’t have to tell you to do your research.

Hi Angep :)

Willow is correct about the link to the 'SCD lifestyle website', they are opportunists, ripping off a science based diet and turning into a money making scheme. Some of their info is correct as they ripped it off from Elaines Gottschall B.A., M.SC. and Dr Haas research, some is flawed, and all available for a price. I also came across this website and it kinda pissed me off that they are trying to charge for something that is already free and published, if you know where to look.

If you are interested in the SCD Specific carbohydrate diet I suggest you buy the book Breaking The Viscious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall B.A., M.SC. It is the true foundation for the SCD diet. The diet has been clinically tested for over 50 years, this is not a new diet, its been around since the 1020's, by Dr Haas and biochemist Elaine Gottschall

I follow a strict SCD diet, it is my lifestyle choice, it works by changing your gut biome, starving out the bad bacteria and replacing with good bacteria. It also promotes single saccharides which are easily digested, allowing your gut to heal, the thought being to promote balance in your gut to reduce and eliminate inflammation and leaky gut. This diet is very similar to a paleo diet, but SCD is specifically tailored to people with Crohns and IBD.

The diet is not an easy one to follow, and it is very expensive buying whole foods. So a strong commitment is need to be successful, as it wont work if you cheat even a little. The costs come from buying good nutritious foods like fresh fruits, nuts, and vegetables and grain fed meats, instead of cheap packaged foods and refined foods. There is a substantial time commitment as well, everything you eat has to 'out of the ground' or home-made, nothing is packaged, so you know exactly what is in your food, as many product labels are misleading and dont always include added sugars, if they are under a certain amount. I make food in batches, and eat off them for the week.

One of the main foods on this diet is 24 hour yogurt, that you have to make yourself. The diet is lactose free and mostly dairy free. The yogurt is "legal' because you use a certain strain of bacteria as cultures, the types that reside in your small intestines, not in the large. The cultures that you put into your base, must ferment for 24 hours, the cultures eat all the sugars (lactose) and you end up with pure lactose free yogurt. Store bought yogurt is not allowed due to the processing process. This is a powerful and natural probiotic. I am 'lactose intolerant' and have not eaten any dairy in about 25 years prior to SCD, now I eat yogurt every day with sprinked walnuts, berries and raw honey on top.

This diet is Grain Free, Gluten Free, Lactose Free, mostly Dairy Free, Sugar Free

I have had my gut bacteria tested for bacteria strains, virus, parasites by a private company prior to SCD and then in about a year I plan to retest again. I am very interested to see, if the strains of bacterium in my feces and gut have changed and if the numbers go up, and if I have more bio diversity of healthy bacteria being on SCD.

I believe a combination of the correct medication and healthy diet are key to controlling Crohns. This is my belief, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
