I completed Week 2 run 1 this morning and can't believe how much harder I found it than Week 1!! Just running that extra 30 seconds really puffed me out. Also I noticed that both of my shins were tender. Is this normal at this stage? I have hear about shin splints, I hope that this is not the start. Has anyone else experienced how I am feeling?

I'm lucky in that I haven't suffered from the dreaded shin splints but I have read other people's contributions on the subject. I think having new trainers might make a big difference and having your gait analysed and trainers professionally fitted might solve the problem. I'm sure others will have some good suggestions to help you, that's the great thing about this programme! Good luck!

I agree with oona, maybe new shoes may help. I have never experienced shin splints, but I do hope you find relief soon. Good job getting into week 2 and welcome!!!!

This is a good general 'how to run' article:

livestrong.com/article/1890...

It helped me with sore shins when I was starting the programme.

If you put 'shin splints' into the search box top right you'll be taken to lots of other articles.

Agree good shoes are a must.

My soreness disappeared when I altered my foot position and has - touch wood - never returned, I'm in W10 and can run the full 30 mins with no discomfort.

Keep at it, listen to your body, you'll get there! :-)

I absolutely understand this, when I did week 2 I had terrible pain in my shins. It didn't stop me from running, but it was a bit of a 'mare. I was wearing rubbishy shoes, and regrettably still do wear them, but the pain does go away at about week 3/week 4 when your legs are used to it. Keep going and you'll pull through, don't let it put you off :)
