This morning was run 2 of week 9 (whoever would have thought that I'd get to week 9!) and I decided to start a little bit quicker than last time. After all, I know I have more in the tank at the end because I can always manage (have always managed so far!) to put a bit of speed on for the last 60s of my run. I didn't want to overdo it, however, and I tried as best I could to ignore Laura warning me that I might be going too fast and might exhaust myself too early and focused instead on her telling me that I was doing great and to keep my rhythm going.
I was back out at my usual time so didn't get tangled up in small children going to school (bliss!) and just met the usual dog-walkers. I was still able to say hello to them so I figured I wasn't going too fast. I was hoping that I might make it 10 times round the rec this time (that would be 4.5K) and I was just shy of 5 times round when Laura told me I was half way. I guess I must have slowed down a bit in the second half as I put on my usual burst of speed with 1min to go and was 50m short of 10 laps. So I ran 4.45K in 30 min, which I don't consider too shabby.
And the most remarkable part of this? I'm pretty sure that my last minute, having run already for 29 minutes, is faster than any of the minutes I ran in week 1. Just goes to show how well this programme works. I shall miss it when I've done my last run on Friday. Although I may use the week 9 podcast for a bit longer.
My graduation run will be on Friday. Let's see if I can at least get that extra 50m!
