All done, slow and steady it went. It felt more comfortable today. I have been running the forest trails with tree roots and all sticking out the ground. For gravel trails, should I use trail trainers or road trainers?

Well done on completing week 3! I would imagine trail trainers for gravel but Im no expert and don't run off road often.

If your current road shoes grip OK and you feel secure in them, you probably don't need trail shoes right now. I only owned road shoes during C25K and they were fine on fairly flat, even gravel surfaces on single-figure gradients.

Nowadays, running longer distances on tracks like those in your photo, I'd use my lighter trail shoes as they grip better than my road shoes. However I wouldn't use my more technical trail shoes as they're too firm, the lugs are too deep and they'd only pick up chunks of gravel, which is no help at all.

I personally won't run in road shoes on slippery, uneven sloping terrain, even for short distances. I tried it once on an easy trail that I know very well, faceplanted badly and ended up in A&E. If I find myself unexpectedly wearing the wrong shoes for the terrain, for example during holiday runs where I don't know the route, I'll walk rather than splatter myself.

well done Troyskiuk01 …you’re flying through it!! I think if you’re trainers feel ok on the gravel and you’re not skidding about, they should be ok…if not, def trail shoes
