Ouch!

Hi,

I'm currently on week 3 (need to do the last run) but for the past few runs before and after I'm in so much pain!!

My knees and ankles are just soooo sore! I bought new running shoes becuase my last trainers were no good and though this would help but it hasn't. I just feel like I'm having to stop before I've really got started! What should I do, carry on through the pain or give it a break and then start again?

Thanks

🍏Nooo we never advise running in pain! You need to get advice from a physio or your GP before carrying on. The usual cause is running too fast too soon. Here is a guide to our program

The runs will wait. Well done on your effort so far & we look forward to hearing more from you ☺️

Several questions!

1. How long does the soreness last?

2. Is it just during the run or does it come on afterwards and last for 24-48 hours?

3. What size are your running shoes compared to your normal day shoes?

4. How tight are you tying your laces?

5. Before starting, how active have you been?

Sorry just getting back to this, life has sort of got in the way.

Thank you for the replies, I appreciate the time taken.

The soreness was lasting inbetween running for basically the whole week.

I'd upped my size by a half size or so.

I wasn't tying them too tight because they were sore but not too loose either.

I'd not been overly active. I've two children under 3 so as much as I'd tried to stay active. I'm also probably about 3 stone overweight.

It seemed to have gone mostly now and I think it might have just been doing too much too soon, plus the extra weight. I rested my legs a little and have just finished week 5. I've slowed way way way down. I'm hoping that getting some of the weight off is going to help.
