Back at it - sore knee!

so, third time around the block. Both times I’ve fallen pregnant (I was running to get fit ahead of pregnancy). That’s not happening this time (no more babies thanks!) and I’m delighted st the prospect of running for myself.

compleyed week 2 today, and had a sore knee as I was running. I don’t think I was going too fast (not breathless w a convo) but slowed down. Wondering if I need to do more strengthening? I went too fast first time I did it and had big issues w knees. Second time, not a peep. Am I just going to fast? Really don’t think I was…..have been so good! Only hurt while running, and slowed right down to near walking and it stopped. Is that my answer?

Oh no! I’ll start with the caveat that I’m recovering from knee pain so I’m probably super sensitive about it. You absolutely did the right thing not running through pain. It’s not always easy to stop an walk but you did, so well done!

Have you had this pain looked into before? If you haven’t, I’d consider getting it investigated. I’ve had a great experience with a physio. You could see what happens with some rest but since you’ve had knee issues before, I’d have a very low threshold for seeking real life, professional advice. The most important thing is not to run in any pain.

All of us runners should be doing strength exercises to help us avoid injuries and niggles. You might have seen that there are some great new posts from Oldfloss over on Strength and Flex so you’ve picked a good time for your knee to grumble! My knee pain (which is actually hip issues) will go away with getting stronger and more stable. Doing that sort of exercise has had a great effect on my running too so I’m a total convert!

Well done 👍 previous attempts were fortunate to bring you children, this one will bring you 5k badge! Regarding knee, good warm up and cool down + stretching, and strengthening between runs ;) my knee is also not happy, but I have also osteopath that looks after me and double check if there is nothing alarming to stop running.
